They're very nice pics.
OK peoples! From here on, please indicate your shutter speed and exposure used on the Noctilux if possible. I think it may make more sense to viewers, Noct users or not.
Er...just a humble request?![]()
Thank you.
I typically don't log exposure info....and these are film images, so no exif data. The middle photo of the fence from what I can remember, was probably at deep dusk. I'm thinking either an 1/8th or 1/4 second....close to the limit of what I can handhold an M at.

Well boys, I've just finished reading the whole thread (well, I'd better say "looking").
I've just made the jump to RF photography, and the Noctilux is one of the reasons for this jump. Hope I'll get one someday... for now I must stick to a VC 40/1.4...
Thank everybody for sharing such uncommon and fantastic photos!

some people talk about the "hype" that the lens currently has, and that it used to be prices at around 2000$
what do you guys think made the hype? is this really gonna go down ?

It would appear there is a mystique about the Noctilux, fueled by its speed and excessive price no doubt. At a recent LEICA day young new M8 & 9 owners dreamed of owning one. When I told them I did "wow" was the response. When I told them I bought it for £830 five years ago "wow" was the response. I lugged that thing around Italy on my M6 after which I sold it and bought a Summilux. Why, because it's far too big & heavy, difficult to focus and full of coma. When walking around with it you are stared at & a target for a mugging. Now the price is ridiculous £5k or whatever my response "wow" should have kept it in a safe.

Matt, I very much like the portrait photo !
Blaze, there is nothing to argue about it. It is a heavy lens and needs some practice (and an aligned RF) to get good photos with it. When everything comes together, the photos speak for themselves.

Thanks Gabor. The Nocti is an unusual beast for sure. 50mm lenses are so rare where I come from. We rarely see them. Having been a canon digital user the nocti seems light by comparison. Sure the 35mm f2 lens is a baby next to the nocti. ---------------- Now playing: Joe Bucci Trio - Topsy via FoxyTunes

Iv been reading this thread for the last month. Some great images and info thanks to all for sharing. So Iv been trying to get a Noct from a private sale but was unsuccessful. So today I ordered a Noctilux in EX + condition with caps case from KEH
. It should be here by friday mounted on my Lecia M3
I had the canon 50 1.0 AF version which was swell on the Canon 5D2 but didnt have "the look" of the Noctilux Iv been wanting. Im thinking of picking up another body, leaning towards a M6 for the 35 1.4 Summilux.

It's interesting the strong emotions that the Noct brings out in discussions like this. One thing I intend to do is ger my lecia on a tripod with my Noct and some slow B+W film and make some nice big prints. I contend that nothing can be learned by viewing on a tiny little screen. Well something can be learned but i want to see some 20-24 before I make any judgement about the Noct and what it can, or can not do.

I like your work Matt! Very nice.
I also like the Noctilux very much for it's tonality and rendering, but not fot it's black corners.

It's funny the light fall off at the corner is part of the unique signature of the Noctilux that made me buy in. Not to mention the strong field curvature and the other imperfections that the critic's always seem to slam the lens for. I guess some of us don't know what makes for a "good lens".
One thing I would like to say that the Canon 50 1.0 I had was an excellent lens and hardly a paper weight. If the Noctilux is better than the canon 50 1.0 than my cup will runeth over.
