Nate, Kristian - wow!
Wonderful shots! Nate, you made your decision - good for you (although, I might be not alone, saying, I'm gonna miss these shots of yours). Especially this last series of shots are truly wonderful.
Kristian, what great portraiture! The last shot shows a hint of "softness" (I guess, it is mostly the light and dof though), I love so much about the f1 Noct, being technically better and sharper all around though (0.95). Very convincing!

Nah mate keep posting them, they're cool!
Nate you've posted so many awesome photos lately with this lens that I also have to say that it suits you and its a little bizarre that you decided to ditch it. Is it too many pages back where you explained why? Or you havent?

Thanks!
agreed. It doesn't look like Nate needs the speed and he doesn't shoot for bokeh, he shoots for content, so a Lux is more suitable. Faster (to focus), lighter and closer focus.

While it is nice seeing images of the lovely lady we now know is your wife, there is much more to your images than a recurring subject. I enjoy your images as they don't come off as an excuse to use a particular lens regardless of the image which does get boring in some instances.
Thanks JSU

Have 1 already actually. Really should stop posting so many family pictures anyway.
I'll have to pay more attention to your subjects in that I didn't get this one figured out. Perhaps, the Nikon setup is more appropriate for kids.

Well my kid is 6 and I cringe when picking up the Nikon for personal use, unless I;m using my Zeiss ZF 100/2, my killer headshot lens.

Mister E . Your work the Noct is incredible. Me thinks if you sell it yoiu will suffer on some level. And we will be deprived of your most excellent work with this lens
Mister E already sold it, and I have to disagree. The images aren't great because of the lens at all. You can tell he's not shooting for bokeh like most Noct users. He's shooting for content, and that can be done skillfully with any lens...but of course the Noct does make it look somewhat sweeter sometimes

That's too bad, I liked his shots in this thread.
As far as the generalization about most Noct shooters, I think us Noct users get a bad rap by the bokeh haters.
It's funny, I never even think about it. I do like the Noctilux signature @ f/1.0.

Most images I ever see from the f/1 Noct are pretty bad regarding content, as the Noct is over-used for testing so often just to see how the bokeh looks. You're one of the smarter ones using it to create beautiful pictures, capitalizing on it's unique signature.

Thanks for the compliment, I'm glad you enjoy my work. I'll continue to shoot with the lenses I do have! You can always find recent work on my flickr.

I did already sell it and I agree with you. It's not so much that you have to shoot 'for bokeh' to enjoy the Noct or any other fast lens, but out of all the wild lenses I've tried the Noct just didn't grow on me. I had the Noct-NIKKOR for years and shot with it repeatedly, I'm sure this isn't the thread it, but I preferred the look from that lens over the 50/1.0 Noctilux. I don't want to disparage the Noctilux at all, it's a great lens, but I love my 50 Summilux and the Noctilux didn't fill any niche for me. I love the vignetting of the Noctilux and the occasional swirl with it.

Thanks Kristian, what you said about my work is very kind.
In fairness to others who may not have had a high-speed lens like the Noctilux before, I'm sure you're thinking about these test shots. I have the advantage of having owned the Nikkor 58 1.2 AIS Nocturnal as well as the Canon 50 1.0 AF before I finally settled on the Noctilux.
And having dreamed of swirling bokkeh and B+W for well over 20 years, I just had to get them on film. The pictures were already taken in my mind
.
I really wanted to have the Noctilux "signature." In fact, the Noctilux 50 1.0 is the reason why I got into Leica M in the first place.
Mister E: again, congratulations on your most excellent work with the Noctilux. You used it very well and the world is better for the images you have shared. I wish you well with your photography. Feel free to come back to this thread from time to time and check in on us, and let us know how we/you are doing.

Kristian, I've seen this one before. Your framing belies the signature of the Noctlux. Nice shot, just not a "signature" image, even for the 0.95 Noctilux. My wife sitting beside me did actually comment though, quite positively, too. I think some of your best in this genre, not of your family, are the night club scene. Not that this one sucks, which it doesn't.
I reread this entire thread in the last couple of days. Even discounting the bent feelings of years past, I feel there are too many images best called, "test images." Maybe I'm just too much of a people person, as in photos.
Thanks JSU. It certainly helps to have such a great subject and light. By the nightclub scene, I guess you're referring to the picture I posted from the music video I shot. I'm with you in regards to 'test images'. While not everyone can have a good subject to shoot, it is possible to put more effort into the shot in regards to foreground interest and composition instead of shooting for the fabulous bokeh Noctilux owners lust after.
At the end of the day, good picture or not, it's all subjective and as long as the image brings happiness to the operator, then mission accomplished.

Wow, I like it. Very different.
Great website too. My daughter would love to hang out with you in LA as you work!
Thank you Thomas....it certainly is interesting here but not as glamorous as many think. The ironic things is that I'm happier pretending I'm an amateur than working as a professional...and that's why I'm here, to keep the passion alive with you guys.

Life without passion is neither.
I paid the freight for 33 years with my cameras, now I don't. I think I'm happier now.
If you aren't living for the image, I'm not sure you're living....
At work I'm working for the image 'for others'. In my rare spare time, I'm trying to 'live for the image' as you say JSU.
My rangefinder allows me to differentiate the two, and this forum allows me to share it.

It was backlit sun with a reflector reflecting light back into her face. I made a video on the shoot and will release it soon. Stay tuned

I'm appreciative you do, don't stop....
Work is work. You do it and keep whomever, editors or art directors (etc.), satisfied. Then you breathe deeply and keep living, ...and... seeing.
Keep the photo faith,
and Happy New Year!
Another half hour or so on the left coast, been there and done that already in coastal Tejas.
I'm out....
Wise words JSU, and yes Happy New Year to everyone, more so the US peoples on the west coast where we're 6 minutes into 2011.

I just got back from a short trip to Hong Kong and took a couple of pictures there with my Noctilux. Here are a few of them (sorry if I'm posting too many):
