Does a Ferrari cover Italian labor costs? No, they just rip rich people off because they can. Same with the new Noctilux.
1) I have no idea average Italian salary.
2) A Ferrari is worth every euro.
3) Germans need $ for their Mercedes.
4) Labor cost was the reason for original Midland move.
5) The Noct are mfg in small quantities = low supply, high demand = high price.
Is it worth $10K(US). Probably no.

Def a collectors thing.....not much of a lens that one would want to use.....most likely.

Nope, reason was high duty on US imports and/or restrictions against German postwar products, and also most of the Midland pioneers there came from Germany. I guess they were far better off there than back home, when Germany was still more or less in ruins!

Hi all!
I got my new Noctilux 1:0,4 yesterday, damn hard to use and very heavy!
In the hands of a true master it will surely deliver outstanding results.
I would let it go for a snap! For 10000 only it could be yours!

A bit of trivia: When Leica sold ELcan to Hughes Aerospace in the 90's - they offered the german specialists at Midland an opportunity to go back to Wetzlar. Dont know the exact number that was extended the offer - but only 1 person took it! I talked to a friend - who had been offered a position in Wetzlar/Solms and his response was "Hell no. I like it here. I have a cottage by a lake, I have a house in Midland and more wide open space than I know what to do with!. Central Germany is mainly roads, farms and congestion".

Most interesting. Germany is a wunderbar place to visit. I was stationed there a few years when I was a kid in the US Army. [My other choice would have been a tropical vacation in Vietnam.]
A friend of mine who fought with the German Army WWII (Italy) was POW in a prison camp in the US. After the war he returned to Germany for a year and came back to the United States to live and raise his family.
