Noctilux used values

I would keep the Noctilux that gives best results with your cameras and sell the other one. If they both give identical results and are in identical shape, sell the one recently CLA'ed by Leica, since the CLA with certificate should give a higher price.

True Kevin but you forgot about one other group, it is the people like me who don't see the Noctilux as an "investment" and use it like any other lens but can't easily replace it because of it's high price. I really would like to see prices going down for this lens (even though it would be a loss in value if I would have to sell mine) but I would use it with more confidence that I could replace it if I break it...

As many of you know I am going to buy a Noctilux, when my Noctilux fund matures in a few months. In the meantime, I have kept my ear to the ground locally. All I will say is my sources, very good ones, are telling me that it is quickly becoming a buyer's market. Which is good news for my limited budget.
 
It turns out that the guy that offered the noctilux lost interest and another fellow offered me a USPS M.O. for just under asking, so it's a non-issue for me anyhow.

I do sitll want a noct, though I'll probably just hold off on that purchase for the rest of my life 😛. I doubt prices will ever really fall much, and I'm the kind of guy that buys when he finds the deal.

Both lenses give similar results and are in almost new condition. BTW, the CLA'ed lens is the one that has its box, case and papers and is version 3 (the only w/ clip on hood), which I think is the most desirable version, so there are three reasons to think that this one can be sold at a higher price. So, you think this is the right moment to sell ?

OTOH, I completely agree when you say that one can use this expensive lens with more confidence when you know that you can replace it if you break it. I'm sure that I wouldn't have ventured to use this lens in some risky situations without having a replacement at home. Truly odd !

Very nice. Looks just like mine which was on an M3 in a case its whole life. I don't like the big hood and I recommend the B+W nr. 950 hood for 50mm/58mm screw-in.

Under normal economic circumstances, you're probably right. But today, if you're concerned about getting top dollar for a lens you're not using: sell now!
 
My estimate is that Leica has sold about 700 Noctilux since the introduction of M8. About 200 of them were sold thru discount program and 100 thru "last 100". The rest of them to dealers at about $5k a piece. New Noctilux is about $8k to dealer, and the preorders are reported to be excellent. The new Noctilux pricing will provid a support for the used pricing. There are really not that many old Noctilux around so that the price should hold at about $3k to 6k in the near future. If people don't like the bokeh of the new Noctilux, the old noctilux will be in higher demend. If the new has better bokeh, then old Noctilux pricing will drop.
 
I agree with Rik that since the used Noctiluxes are sold on the world market, the prices are moving on the increased strength of the US dollar and making for a more expensive Noctilux in Euros. If the dollar ever goes to back to 1:1 with the euro then you may see the $3000 or lower lens.

I agree. I can get something like this with my 50/1.4 ASPH - not exactly like it, but pretty close.
 
The best deal was the 30% off coupon for any lens from Leica for those that bought a M8 when it first came out. That came out to about $2800 for a brand new Noctilux with warranty at that time.
