Noctilux vs Nokton

OP: Welcome to the forum! If you search this site using Google (not the site's search engine) you will find several hours worth of reading on this topic.

I have had both and they are very close. Nokton has more neutral and boring signature but the difference is very small although price difference is huge.

i still have both of these lenses.
nokton has more wild bokeh, and the focus to out of focus area is not as smooth.
bokeh are more irregular in terms of shapes for the nokton, and the noct have more rounded bokeh when shooting wide open.

I say go for the noct if u have the money, if not, the nokton is good too.

oh, and the nokton has no vignette at corner when shoot wide open.

i say the noct has more unique character.

Eric,

Do you remember the aperture for the shot above, looks to be near wide open?

neutral and boring signature

I have to admit Ive never looked at a truly great photograph and felt it was lacking due to a "neutral and boring signature" imparted by the taking lens of the camera that took it.

OP: Is the difference of a thousand of dollars worth the trade-off for a small difference in performance? Only you can answer this question.

It helps to take people's advice here and also read up as this debate has been done to death online. Funny thing is that when you're presented with both lenses and get to use them both it turns from what you imagined would be an easy decision using your head and wallet, and becomes a heart decision without logic nor common sense and I for one was hijacked completely in favour of the one I could never afford. Then once you've been hooked you move heaven and hell to find the money. I own a nocti f1. It's hard to use, heavy, and you worry about it like a new-born baby. It's like an addiction. I'd love to own a Nokton as well, but I know it would stay in my bag, or at home. The Nokton I believe is sharper and clearer opened up. The nocti is like a 1970's itialian sports car, you have to take control of it, or it takes control of you. Good luck cause logic and common sense will not prevail.
