Does anyone have any comparisons to the 35 f/2.5 PII? I'm going to spend some time with that lens first as I just got it, but I'm thinking I want to have a fast 35/50 setup (maybe add a 28 in the future) and I wonder if it would be worth the switch.

I'll be using an R2 as well. :)

Does anyone have any comparisons to the color skopar 35? I am plenty happy with the skopar so far, but I am of course also interested in having f/1.4 available.

Hello,

I would like to know how it compares to it's 40mm cousin..? A 5mm difference isn't much and the 40mm should have less distortion.. It is even cheaper. So, is there a catch aside from the frame-line issue?
How is the off-center sharpness for both lenses? I don't often put my subject in the middle, so that is important. Filing a little tab to get the 35mm frame to show isn't a big deal.. Now if it saves $100 and eliminate distortion without adding other problems, could the Nokton 1.4/40 be an even better choice..?

Gil,

I have no experience with the 40mm nokton, but as far as overall sharpness (off-center) with the 35mm, I have never had a problem with the lens--especially stopped down. Wide open, I don't think the lens is clinically as a sharp as other asph options ("glowy" at 1.4), but it's sharper than a non-asph summilux (in my experience).

I'll contribute this to the pool, shot at 1.4, handheld at about 1/8th. The softness of this is likely due to motion blur, so it probably isn't the greatest example--but I was going to contribute it anyway, so, there you go.

Overall, I love the lens and use it often.

Thanks Wil. It's for an M4-P too ;-) I guess we want perfect fast lenses but there is no such thing. In all practicality, this lens seems good enough. I don't like the distortion much, but it is only visible on some images and I don't shoot architecture. I am still undecided between the two Biogons f2.8/2 and the two Noktons 35 and 40mm f1.4.

Leica MP, Nokton 35mm f1.4 SC @ f1.4. Arista Premium 400 in Td 201 two bath developer (3 min in A and B). I have multiple 35f1.4 SC's - this is one of the other ones. One I have is a limited edition brass and black paint and I know that it has been "tweaked" at the factory - a "blue print" lens and my most used lens period. I decided to shoot some stuff with one of the other ones, just for a change.
