Nokton 40mm and hood

Do I need it? I dont wan it. I am trying to keep my kit small. Can I easily take it off? I am concidering the SC version Nocton For Landscapes and People mostly out doors. Is the SC version a good all round lens with good contrast or should I go for higher contrast MC. One last thing, if I go for SC version, can I put a filter on to raize contrast? Thanks

The hood is a bayonet fitting. On and off is fast and simple.

Whether you need it or not is up to you, and your light, and style.

I use the 40mm SC variant, look at my photos (link in signature) and decide it you like the slightly vintage look.

I have a 40/1.4 MC and it is definitley keeping my kit small. I can't find enough of a reason to throw down for a 35/2 because 40 is so close. It's already a 1.4, so I don't really need a fast 50/1.4 that I'd rarely use because I constantly find 50mm to be too long.

If you can get it at a good price, then it's a great lens. Mine was $250 shipped, boxed with the hood, and this was even before they announced the new 35/1.4 Nokton.

Jon, are all your pictures on your site taken with the Nokton SC. Are the bull fighting shots with the Nokton? Your pictures definately have a look. and I think its a good look.I am not sure I want that look but maybe I do. How would those bull fighting shots look if you had used an MC version? Thanks

The bullfighting ones are all Voigtlander 40mm SC.

So far as as I recall a year later.

The hood doesn't come with the lens new, you have to buy it separately. With the aid of more modern glasses the SC Nokton flares the same as the Multi Coated CLE Rokkor. Not bad for a single coated lens!
