Mr. Gandy mailed the Nokton f/1.1 yesterday and it arrived in my hands today. No idea what kinds of photos it takes but it is a dear sweet thing to behold.

Part 2

If there's anything to have GAS about, I'm afraid this is it. And such a deal....

Someone here wrote that the lens could be bought in Hong Kong for something like $800 but no details were given exactly where.

I bought a Pentax Limite 43mm 1.9 and a Heliar 50mm 3.5 LTM instead. With the cost of these two lenses, I could have bought a Nokton 50mm/1.1. Did I do the "right thing" or did I not?

Congratulation Julian on your new dream lens.

Just got mine this afternoon, loading up Ektar 100. Perfect 4th of July ahead :)
It does block out a portion of the frame on M4-P - with hood, I wonder if the LH7 is meant to deal with this.

On the Zeiss Ikon, at infinity and with the lens hood on it blocks out about 1/8 of the 50mm frame. At the closest focus point, it's about 1/6. Without the hood, the blocking is negligible.

Life (photography) is such a dillema ... I'd really like to own one of these but I also hanker for the new Bessa folder.

Damn you Cosina! :p

The reality is I guess that I currrently have two 1.2 50mm lenses ... one for my OM's (1.2 Zuiko) and of course the Canon RF 1.2 lens ... both great glass! To spend around $1200.00 (here in oz) for about a third of a stop gain in speed over what I have would be insane ... but no doubt plenty of others will!

Maybe this will help, Keith: a contrast comparison of Canon 1.2, Noctilux 1.0 and new Nokton all shooting the same black and white scene (done by Benny) wide open:

Pretty damn good, if you ask me. Less than 1/3rd stop difference between Noctilux and Nokton (horizontal shift of the two curves), basically equivalent contrast. On RD1 cropped sensor, of course. If you include the difference in vignetting on FF, the new Nokton might be even faster than the 1.0 Noctilux.

Cheers,

Roland.

Amazing how similar the Leica and CV are ... the Canon does it's own thing I notice and it's easy to bump contrast in processing!

Thanks Roland ... you've just convinced me that I don't need it! :)

Hi, I bought mine from Tin Cheung in HK, the price is slightly less than US$800 but I doubt they do mail order on this lens. You can still contact them.

Google Tin Cheung and you will find their website.

Very pleased with mine

Very pleased with mine

Got mine Wednesday morning from CameraQuest.com.

started to put a bunch of images up and a few thoughts about the lens on my website at http://bophoto.typepad.com/bophoto/2009/07/voightlander-50mm-11-its-here.html

somebody asked about the viewfinder.

and before anyone get the idea that I got the lens to photograph it.. it have actually been out and about yesterday and today... its quite a nice lens, appears to be well made, the focusing is only 1/4 turn for the full range, very smooth with little effort required to focus.

So, why exactly do we get a $350 markup? hmm. Anyone from HK wants to buy one for me and make a quick $50 ? ;)

I missed the mailman this morning and have to wait until tomorrow to pick mine up. Just over nine hours to. Not that I'm counting or anything.
