A non-pixelated and longer version of the M8 shutter sound clip has been posted at http://www.lightmediation.com/blog/index.php?2006/09/06/25-leica-m8-digital-numerique-exclusif.

Shutter sound is quite nice

I personally like the shutter sound. It is very close to the sound of the shutter of the M6TTL.

I concur, the shutter speed dial sounds much louder in comparison. Nice smooth sound, certainly not bad for an electronic shutter. Hmm.
He says that it's two frames per second ("could be more"...I'm assuming in Continuous Mode) and the shutter is a "vertical shutter". Pas mal le truc.

It's looking good, lost the PC socket for flash though compared to the M7 but I guess thats not a huge problem for me. I can't afford one anyway. Gotta win the lotto first.

Looking at the new high res video of the M8 being handled, right at the beginning it appears that the individual presses the shutter release and then hesitates before lifting the tip of his finger and this seems to activate the shutter cocking sequence. If this is right, then it means one would be able to take a shot and make only the first sound of the shutter firing and then wait to release one's finger and cock it again. On my my cameras I often take the shot and drop the camera away from my face down to my waist before I use the lever to re-cock it. This could work essentially the same way, but without having to advance a lever...just lift one's finger tip from the button. If I am right, I am delighted about this.
On a slightly negative note I would echo the sentiment of another poster who said that it will be really disappointing if the only way to change ISO and Ex comp is to do so on the LCD screen in a menu. He was also right that this would make the R-d1 more of an M than the M8. On the other hand, it's only Wednesday and there are still two panels in the puzzle that have not been revealed. Right? I am having trouble guessing how one of those might contain some sort of very simple non-menu driven way of changing those values. Let's hope so.

I personally don't understand why the whirring sound after the shot, giving there's no mirror, nor film to reload.
Recocking the shutter maybe ? I guess it could be quieter... well, for a rangefinder
I counted 6 frames in 3 sec (2 fps) with about 1 sec for the image to be displayed. Not bad.

On my monitor, when I try to hit the link it does that spastic resizing thing and moves up a line with the window the size I normally have it -- meaning that I can't click it without resizing the window.
Can I take this opportunity to say I hate hate hate the way links behave on this forum? I don't care what else changes, I am indifferent to color schemes, etc. but the link thing is really annoying.

Good point. Let's hope there's a "shortcut"; I know I can set the ISO on my Canon 20D with the "SET" button (inside the round dial) when I'm not in the menu; I've set this button as my shortcut button to the ISO setting.

It sounds much much much quieter than my Bessa R or Bessa R2. Those two are rangefinders. Last time I checked.MarcoS said:I guess it could be quieter... well, for a rangefinder![]()

I am reconsidering a point made a couple of days ago that the size of the round LCD window top left on the camera is way to big just to show remaining shots. Maybe this IS where remaining shots, ISO and ex comp can be seen and changed quickl and easily without having to turn on the rear LCD. And then there is the possibility that the functions will be reight there in the viewfinder . . .crossing my fingers.

Well, if edlaurpic is right (cocking the shutter only after release the finger, like 1Ds' "silent mode"
) it's a nice feature.
Sadly I guess the person in the video used the B pose (don't know why) and changed to other manual faster speeds just prior to show the single and burst mode.
So judging by the video there's no way to know if cocking the shutter happens instantly or after releasing the finger.
Btw Gabriel, I was referring to the whirring sond after the shot, the shutter sound per se seems quite silent, better than my R-D1 indeed

What are you talking about with this slient mode!? He had the camera on Bulb mode at the start of the video which explained the way the shutter was firing.....

And the tripod mount is located centered to the lens' axis. Finally...

Also keep in mind that this is just some crappy video with presumtously bad audio/video sync so you can't really tell whether there is any shutter lag..

Turn-around for you, you were quite recently rubbishing the concept and likely performance of the M8. Your opinions count for nothing IMHO.

Yeah, sometimes it becomes a game of "click me if you can!" Certainly the CSS for each different "look" needs to be revised.MelanieC said:Can I take this opportunity to say I hate hate hate the way links behave on this forum?
