i had planned to sell the xe1 bodies but never got around to it...not sure if it's worth it os maybe better to keep as back up/blizzard shooting.

I must be missing something in my photography. I don't feel for one focal length or the other, I feel for the picture in the viewfinder. I will go wide to get a wide view if that's what i want or I go long for a long view. I guess what everyone is saying is that they have one or another view that is all that they like or at least are "comfortable" with. I don't understand.

when i first started out in photography (at the dawn of time) i found many images that i liked and many of them were from wide angle lenses...but i had no interest in wide lenses and images from 35mm lenses seemed to be the ones i enjoyed the most.
fast forward and i finally bought a wide lens and started to enjoy my images from it. today, my favourite is the 16 from fuji...aka 25 fov in full frame. it seems much more normal to me than a 50 mm pov (FF).

Joe, if you decide you might sell an XE1 body, let me know.
I have recommended the XE to a young photographer here who is not rich ;-) nor yet technically sophisticated, but who wants to learn to improve her street photography, and likes the idea of practicing greater discipline via visible manual controls.

Just a thought, why not sell some gears to get an X100/s/t? It's got a great 23/2 lens on it and it's smaller than an XE.

I prefer 28-85mm... and when I use them, I know what will be in the VF before I bring the camera up to my eye. It's familiarity and what I photograph that dictates these lenses. Some people spend minutes looking through a viewfinder to find the shot they want. I only need a second. We don't all photograph the same way and there's nothing wrong with that.

- Put the 35/2 away in a secure, lens friendly location
- Forget about the 35/2 for 3, 6 or 9 months (your choice)
- Then use the 35/2 lens for a while
- Decide the 23/1.4 doesn't do it for you anymore
- Repeat as needed

i've had 2 x100 cameras in the past...but to tell you the truth, if i ever went small, fixed lens again i'd go with the sony rx100...true pocket camera and does a fab job!

When I was a jet mechanic, I had a whole tool chest full of wrenches, screw drivers, pliers, etc. I used some of them a lot and some of them once in a while, depending on the repair. I still kept the "once in a while" tools around for when I'd need them; there were none that I never needed. When I'd go to a jet to do a particular job, I would take the half dozen or so tools I knew I would need rather than pushing the tool chest over to the jet, which could be parked a city block or two down the flight-line.
Camera lenses are the same way as tools. More lenses equals more creative options - just don't lug all of them around with you all the time!
