The search function here gave me a little info, but really just basics that I kind of already knew.....here's what I'd like to know.

What kind of exposure compensation is needed for the range of the lens moving away from the film plane?

I'm assuming the engraved numbers on the HESUM (1:6.5 to 1:17.5) refer to the size of the original (6.5-17.5) to the size of the film reproduction (1), ala 1:1 reproduction. Is this a fair assumption? I've seen a couple of references on websites and eBay descriptions saying that these are focus distance measures (film plane to subject), but this seems wrong based on my experiences with bellows factors in view camera use.

I've seen Raid and Colyn and others here may have experience shooting with one of these gizmos....how many stops did you have to increase exposure?

Thanks,
Jo

NOOKY HESUM...50mm Hector or Summar if I recall.

No exposure compensation required from what I remember

Numbers are indeed original to image size ratios and not really a whole lot of use.

I used to use one of these but never found it particularly satsifactory. The rigid 'copy stand' type of close focus devices are almost easier. using the legs to 'frame' the image.

...then I saw the light and acquired a Visoflex...a life changing experience...

Jo - on the two occasions that I use my 50/3.5 Elmar with the NOOKY close-up device I did not see a need to open up the aperture an extra stop.

I did notice that the RF patch wasn't as well defined as I would like due to the extra lens in front of the RF window.

Thanks, Andrew & Michael. Haven't had a chance to play with it yet, but your info should make it easier. I've read great things about how the Summar reproduces close subjects, even compared with modern optics. Exciting, thanks again!

Rule of thumb, from memory: at 1/10 life size, add 1/3 stop.

In other words, the correction factors aren't great.

Cheers,

R.

With the Nooky-Hesum you don't have to increase exposure. Just meter, set, and shoot..
