Has anybody ever had any experience with the Noritsu LS600 scanner, which normally comes only as part of minilabs ? If yes, how did you find it?

I used them at Costco, I don't know if they use the LS600, but I found the results varied. Which means they change stuff around, or they have it set to auto adjust, to exactly what you don't like. I find scanners unable to get the shadow detail that I want; and at the same time blowning my highlights.

Before I got my own scanner, I tried services of few labs, in different countries, Noritsu, Fuji, Agfa - none of them could hold a handle to even inexpensive 35mm scanners.

There are people who'll tell you all it takes is to set up the thing properly, but in 10 or so labs I tried it was never set up properly then.

I don't know this model but I do use minilab scanners in general.

Only in photography stores, not supermarkets. I examine the scans and give feedback, sometimes ask for them to do it again, and later get markedly better scans.

They can do it properly, but nobody ever asks them to do it properly.

I have much better results when I scan myself on Coolscan IV ED, tweak shadows/highlights in Photoshop , and bring digital files to minilab.
p.s. of course, I ask them "no correction", so they not screw up all my preparation work
