Leica LTM Not a Barnack Leica but close...

I'm a longtime (40 years) LTM Leica user and have just received a Canon IIIA, the first Canon rangefinder which I've ever handled.

I must say that I'm quite pleasantlyurprised by the camera; it is a worthy rival to the Leica IIIc's and IIIf's that I use. The Canon has built in viewfinder optics for 100mm and 135mm which will be really handy in the field.

So far I've been using the Canon with FSU optics, a black Jupiter-8 and an Industar-22 collapsible. The results have been so good that I can see little reason to use different lenses.

Any other Canon LTM users among the Forum members?

I've used mostly Canon ltm lenses on both Leica IIIf and Canon IIf bodies as well as M2 and M4-2 bodies.

Canon LTM lenses are generally very good. Some are as good as Leitz lenses from the same era. I use Canon glass on my Leica Ms often.

There is in fact even a dedicated Canon section in the forum. My primary 35mm camera is a Canon P which uses LTM mount lenses.

I use Canon optics as often as Leitz optics. My Japanese Barnack inspired camera is the Canon IVsb. It just came back from an overhaul of the slow speeds and it is like "new"in my eyes. I also have a Leica IIIc. I treat both woth equal love and careand respect [of a camera].

My first non-Leitz Barnack camera was a Canon IIb. Then came a III, then a IVSB. I was impressed at what Canon did: taking/copying an already good product and improved it. The straight-milled winding knob on the IVSB is one of these: it's gentler to the fingers and isn't like to shred the digits when whip-winding.

True, My Canon IVSb is construction-wise at least the equal of my IIIc and IIIf and definitely has a smarter viewfinder/rangefinder.
