Canon LTM Not such a good buy on eBay

Canon M39 M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
There should not be any duty on camera equipment since we don't have a camera industry. I have never been charged duty or anything that I got on Ebay for cameras or accessories.

Here in Germany I do not only have to pay duty (about 3.7 - 4.2 %) and sales tax (19 %) for Canon cameras when buying for the US, but also when I buy german cameras that were exported some decades ago.

I think if the camera is otherwise in a good shape, it is/was not a bad deal, because I think a camera ot this age almost always needs a CLA to be sure it works properly.

And I think that the IV Sb is a nice camera offering a good value for the money.

Good that you ask for partial refund, Frank.

I have gotten and have given (when I'm selling) up to 20% off the winning bid price when my buyer (or seller) disagrees with me about the condition of the camera.

Of course there are times when jerks are doing what they are. Hopefully this is not the case here.

Good news. The seller has provided a partial refund, so I'm okay with keeping the camera. I think it was an honest mistake by the seller, as his other actions were not photography related. Good of him to make it right.

Frank, glad it all worked out. I often find it does. And I've seen this scenario before, where someone posts on a forum, gets feedback from members and after a while things work out anyway. I wonder why one's immediate action isn't to wait for feedback from the seller as the tone of the post (and the buyer's mood) often changes based on that.

Hi Kevin.
First reason not to wait: it's comforting to have others walk with you through this.
Second reason is that it can be interesting for readers to follow along with the process.

Any ideas on the value of the Nippon Kogaku 8.5cm finder, and the Minicam brand PC flash adaptor that slides onto the canon body's flash rail? I want to list them in the classifieds here. Condition is very good.

The charge looks like it may be 13% HST which is payable on all imported camera gear into Canada. In my job I buy a lot of cameras and parts from Germany and the US and nearly always get the added charge. Only very few slip in under the radar sadly.

I've never paid duty, but I do get dinged now for sales tax (both Federal and Provincial) collected by Customs. I don't know how they got to $45 in Frank's case. One of the nice things about getting my M9 from Leica Boutique in Montreal is that I didn't have to pay any Provincial sales tax. And one of the nice things about RFF classified purchases from Canadian sellers is avoiding customs.

Frank, as for the lens, I have the later Canon 35/2.8; I don't know if it's much different. It was the 35mm I used most on Epson. I can see from the picture you posted that you're going to like yours.

I really got taken by UPS. $450 shipment from B&H and the "brokerage fee" was $190... So glad B&H has Purolator as an option.

I went for another walk today. The Serenar 35f2.8 on a llf, my Summaron f3.5 on a CL, and an Olympus Stylus with 35f3.5. I took several identical shots with all 3 cameras, just hand held, lenses set at f4 (except for the Stylus.) The film from each of these cameras is sitting in Rodinal right now. We'll see what develops. ;)

Yep, these guys are highway robbers. Not sure if Pur. is any better. I always ask for USPS shipping whenever possible.

Watch the Stylus, a $5 thrift store delight, win hands down. :)

Frank - glad you got out shootin'
And B&H with Purolator is nice since you pay for all duty and tax upfront; there's no surprises!

Finder and flash adaptor are listed in the RFF classifieds now, under miscellaneous.
Not sure what they are worth, so I'm asking for offers through the ad.
I'm about to go out for the evening, and hope to review offers tomorrow, so don't fret when you don't hear back right away.
Wish me luck for poker night!

Good news: last night was poker night and I doubled my money by coming in second of a group of 7. My final hand, one on one, I should have won, having 2 aces and 2 kings so I went all in, but my opponent had 3 fours.

Bad news: no one is interested in the finder or flash adaptor yet. Here's the ad:

Today would be agreat day to scan those negs but it is beautiful outside. We'll see.

it's a toss up...

i like parts of the summaron image better and parts of the serenar image better.
