I'm over it also. Sorry that I kinda targeted you, but because we are good friends I knew how far to push. My intent is too keep some of the negative things I see on RFF from filtering into our Meet-Ups, and I truely want to reinforce the open sharing because I think our Meet-Up is kinda special.

DUMB GEAR ALERT: I found a black Leitz "Tiltall" tripod last night on Broadway very near the Leica Gallery. I had to replace a stripped screw with a slightly longer one to impliment a repair. It seems like a decent tripod, about 6 pounds, but it is rated for up to a 13 pound camera.

The Leitz "Tiltall" was a very good deal. The price was free. LOL. Someone threw it out and I basically was garbage picking. I replaced the stripped screw with a slightly longer metric screw from my lab that caught some fresh threads.

Its not every day that you get Leica for free. The last time I got Leica for free involved some loan sharking. That's how I got my factory serviced M3-DS back from that art dealer along with my 50 Rigid.

I also discovered that I can remove the center-post and screw off two sections from one leg to create a very nice mono-pod.

Here is a silly story about the XF 23mm f/1.4 that arrived yesterday. I put it on X-E1 straight from the box. The 23mm does not seem to autofocus. I had checked all the switches for 3-5 minutes and started to freak out, thinking that the motor might have been broken as I did hear a very weak click sound when press on the shutter. And I also started cursing John and Phil as the conversation might have jinxed the lens. Then, I found out through Google that someone mentioned about the focus collar on the lens to lock AF. AHA!

I've gotta say, now that I know about the trick, it is a good concept but a very subtle design, completely unmark on the barrel. But, there are still design flaw in the use of focus collar lock with AF/MF switch on the body. I will show you guys when we meet.

And the lens makes some good images. It's large, as expected. The hood is rediculous. I will try to bring some prints in the next meeting up to match up 35mm Summicron & Summilux on M9 vs. XF 23mm.

Cal, you have so many talents, but I certainly learned that garbage picking is now one! congrats on the Tiltall. It is a nice piece of aluminum, I guess that's why E. Leitz was willing to put its name on it.

My research tells me that Leitz bought CM Marchioni, and the model number is 4602. They are currently sold new for about $120.00.

At the end of the Cold War a friend of mine who had a small business claims that I single handedly downsized an aerospace company that once was the fourth largest military contractor in the U.S., all part of Reaganomics. In effect I was stealing from the rich and giving to the poor by pill-edge-ing a large Fortune 500 company and giving to a small business. The real losers here were the U.S. taxpayers, but call me a modern day Robinhood anyway.

In effect my looting can be looked upon as recycling. Until two years ago I still had aircraft parts in my basement in Long Island City, gave away to a friend part of a F-14 black box weapons panel for his kids to play with, and even had a piece of one of the later space shuttle wings that replaced aluminum with graphite composite.

At one point my boss learned about a lab at another plant that was closing and he sent me on a mission to raze the place. I was issued a Grumman truck (like a UPS truck) which was actually made by Grumman to take home because the other plant was in Great River near where I lived. I had so much fun making a mess and stealing as much stuff as I wanted. My boss even sent someone to help me trash the place.

One man's garbage is another man's treasure. LOL. BTW looting and pill-edge-ing is lots of fun. Wish I did more. LOL.
