the lens serial is 32xx (11870 model) and it comes with hood 12504. I usually use some protective filters - UV or Sky. the issue is that I could not find any info about the filter size for this lens (even not in the lens papers). I googled... it looks like everybody speaks about series 7 filter that is mounted directly on hood...
now I wonder - can I still use regular thread filter directly on lens, why would I prefer the one mounted on hood? and if yes, any idea which size it is (it's a bit bigger than 39mm, can it be 41mm?) - you see, if I buy it on internet I could not try it out before buying.
and if I buy this series 7, where I would find it???

mine can only take the series 7 filter in the lens hood.
the lens has no threads to screw on a filter.

The hood itself is two piece and will unscrew into two halves. The series 7 filter is held between the two halves of the hood when it is screwed back together. Series filters have no threads. If I remember right you can substitute a regular 49mm filter but you may have to hone down the thickness for a good fit, which is what I did. I don't think there was a filter made to use in the normal way.

ok, right- the lens has no threads... i did not notice (what I was thinking!!!)... 🙂 thanks!

Not to worry, the question is common with this lens and had me stumped for awhile after I got mine.

You can order series VII filter from
B+W or from PopFlash photo. However you can also use a E49 filter in its mount but with the threads facing away from the lens.
