Curious how many of us here ever shot Leica SLR's.

Oh, Manual Focus R- there are rumors of an AF digital R...

I shot with an R4 for a few days. It belonged to a friend who was looking to sell it cheap, and I was considering it. Unfortunately, it had electronics problems; it would randomly freeze up. Early R4 bodies did that. I didn't buy it, but I liked the camera and was impressed with the 50mm Summicron it had on it. I shot this with it:

I've shot R glass on Canon digital bodies. I've played around with the R9 too and let me tell you, that is one sweet film SLR! Amazing ergonomics and the best viewfinder I've ever seen on an SLR.
If I wasn't so into rangefinders I would probably sell off all my Nikon stuff and get an R9 and a couple of lenses.

Ditto. The R8 felt just right in my hands, it had one of the best viewfinders I've ever seen on an SLR, and very simple without all the "feature noise".

I kept a few lenses, but sold the others. The 50mm Summicron-R is still carried around with my 5D; it is a wonderful lens, which only gets competition from my Schneider-Kreuznach 50mm f/1.8, mainly because it's "faster". I love using manual focus in low light.

But I think I'd rather use the Leicaflex or the R6.2; it's the retro "no batteries, please" guy in me.
 
I shot an R9 briefly and have to concur with others comments about its excellent viewfinder. It's actually the best SLR viewfinder I've come across, although I'd have to admit that I haven't used that many.

It's funny, I'm considering buying an R body and lens at the moment and am torn between the R8 and R6.2. I love the features of the R8 (and the prices!), but the entirely mechanical nature of the 6.2 appeals to my sense of long-term usability.

Oddly the older camera can be far more expensive in today's market. I fear that despite the R lines red-headed stepchild status in the Leica world, the news of its demise will drive prices up from their current and refreshing low point.
 
I've always wanted to try one, but never got around to it because I'm too heavily invested in the Nikon system. However, seeing Christopher's pictures here is giving me GAS :).

I have a Schneider Kreuznach 50mm/1.8 in Rollei mount. I wonder if our lenses are similar or not?
 
I have an R8 with Motor and 4 lenses. My favorites of the R lenses are the 90mm f2 Summicron and the outstanding 180 f2 APO Summicron.

I'd love a telyt system, but that is beyond my budget alas.

I used to own a leica SL2. It was the nicest SLR I ever had, and I've had almost all that is out there. I can still remember the sound of the shutter, the the solid feel of the camera. I think the R's went downhill after the SL era. It is a sad day.
 
No. But I've always wanted to shoot with one and I still monitor used prices.

That is the lens I have, yes. There are Rollei-to-Canon adapters out there; I have a "cheap" one that is on the lens permanently (because it's just so difficult to put it on and off all the time). I love the lens.
 
My first camera I used was a R3 with a 50 cron. Really nice camera, I don't shoot with it much anymore since I'm more into M cameras these days. Maybe I'll throw a roll in for old times sake and make some images.....
