I have a R8 with a couple of Leitz zooms. It's the only SLR VF that I can actually see.

Doesn't get used much though - normally if we go to Africa on holiday I take it for the safari. I traded all my Nikon SLR gear for it because the VF is so good. Wish I had bought a DMR now when they were on sale at 50% :(

I've got a couple of R lenses and use them on my Digilux 3 with an R adapter.
The 2x crop factor helps on the long lenses and I've been more than happy with the image quality. They're great lenses.

I'm hoping to get some decent deals on R "legacy" glass now - they'll either plummet in value or skyrocket... we'll see.

I've had an R8 (unreliable), but now the R5, which I like very much. My biggest problem is mirror slap. I have a late 50 cron ROM which gives a beautiful image.

I said 'yes' but the camera had no film in it when I shot it. It belonged to a colleague who had just bought it and brought it by to show me his latest acquisition. I think Mano will like it more now that it's discontinued!

I've considered an R8/9 numerous times, but the chance of getting enough budget to buy a meaningful selection of ROM lenses is just about nil. More recently I've considered getting an R6/6.2 and one or two older lenses.

I have three SLs and an SL2 that I use regularly, with a number of the 2-cam lenses, from 28mm to 180mm. Great stuff; a real pleasure to use and highly recommended. The only irritation for me is the need for series filters, which I haven't yet come across. I expect the Leica ones can be found on eBay, but the few I've seen are pricey.

I came across a Summicron R 50/2 pretty cheap and have been using it on my Canon EOS 1n.

The only Leica R cameras I'd love to try are the Leicaflex. The latter R bodies are based on Minolta aren't they? and I think the R8 is just ugly (sorry :) )

answered No, but have recently started to use modded 35 R-Cron on D200. sharp images, and I like also how it draws out of focus areas.

it does feel like the end of an era with the passing of the Leica R analog system. On a bright note, there does appear to be some tasty deals circulating around the web.

I mostly shoot Ms, but recently got an SLR system for a birds and bees trip this fall. A R6.2, 35/2, 50/2 and 80-200/4. This was a camera I used 10-15 years ago and I knew transitioning to it from an M would be easy. If I were only going to have one R SLR camera, for my only camera, then this would be it -- small and easy to use, with a viewfinder that beat the heck out of a nikon FM2n

I've recently read that the Leicaflex SL and SL2 have great viewfinders, even better then the current model R9. Some say the best viewfinders in any SLR. For an occasional use for long lenses, then I may have been better off getting one of these. They look kind of ugly at first, but they grow on you.

Dont worry wait for the digital R10 .

*if* there ever is an R10 with AF it probably won't have a mechanical linkage for auto-stopdown so *if* it is compatible with older R lenses it will probably be a lot like using an R lens on a Canon or Nikon body... so why wait?

I was sort of under the impression that the "new digital SLR" from Leica is already here, the S2. Can anyone really expect that they will make a smaller format too ?

I love my R7 and wouldn't part with it or any of my R lenses.
It's a very different beast to my Voigtlander, it weighs a ton in comparison
I'd like to try an R8 or R9 but I think it would be too big and heavy for me.

Shadofox: I believe the R4, R5 and R6 were built on a Minolta chassis and were made in Portugal. The R3, R7, R8 and R9 were Leica design and were German made. But I agree, the R8/R9 is not pretty. (Although I'm told it handles very well)

I have a Leicaflex SL and a R4s with 28 50 60 and 90. Recently aquired a bellows and a right angled finder cheap. I love the lenses but the cameras not so much. I'd like to try an R6 or R8 and half watch the prices to see if a bargain crops up. The 60mm macro is one of my favourite lenses.

Hi Martin. It has been stated that a new R will be developed, leveraging the technology from the S2 to reduce cost and speed development.

SL2 + R7
2,8/24 + 2/35 + 2/50 + 2/90 + 2,8/180

Great cameras and lenses! But I have a very extensive Pentax system, too (two LX bodies, MX, KX ... and lots of lenses), and I don't know which system I should keep or sell ...
