Friend of mine shoots with R8 and 60mm Macro Elmarit.. insane lens, I mean that in a good way :)

I've heard nothing but good things about the 60 Macro Elemarit... The "Canonistas" seem to love it!

There's a three cam version for sale locally. German made and in very good but not perfect condition.
I had a good look at it yesterday and the depth of the front element caught me by surprise. I'm trying to imagine how you could clean it effectively in the field.

Hmmmm... If I went without food this week I could pay cash for it Monday morning ;)

Lucky me...

I'm looking at a Leica R6.2 right now. It's nice $$$$ but hopefully the owner is negotiable on price.

Always loved the concept behind this camera. Full manual operation, no flabby bits to get in the way... And a very reliable meter that can be repaired if/when needed.
It felt nice in my hands... Solid and well built.

..............

Love the R8/9 but the meter failing and other electronic problems worry me.
If you get a good one they're fine but I recently played with one that had a failed centre spot meter and the other two modes were way off.
To repair these is big $$$... More than the body is worth

Used the R8 for 10 years. Really enjoyed it.
Still miss the viewfinder, but not the vibration from the mirror.
Sold it and converted all R lenses to work on Nikons.

Had an R8 for one roll of film, didn't like it one bit. You have to look into the finder just to see what exposure compensation is set to, and other silly design issues made me take against it. It was probably bigger than my Hasselblad too, which for 35mm, seems crazy.

The older R cameras look better, although I do think the R8's looks, made a bit smaller are fantastic, just too big for what it is, and didn't like how it worked.

Still awaiting an R8.

Would love a DMR to go with it but that is only in a dream.

I am actually using only the R system right now. The M3 taking a vacation while I enjoy the Leica SLR world. My R4 has been perfect for a couple of years now and really lusts for a younger companion in the muscular R8 body.;)

My uncle said he will give me his Ex condition Leica R4 if I can find a lens for it. Sherry Kreuter has a 50/2 for $350 on her site. I really want a Leica M instead, but I'm tempted to try the R. This deal may be too good to pass up! I don't know much about the Leica R system, but reading this thread was helpful. I do have other 35mm SLR's: Nikon N-80 & EM, OM-1n, OM-4T, K1000.

Regards,
Kent
