Now The Conundrum (of sorts): X100 vs X100s

That is a good point. Though you mentioned other Fuji products, with this show of support above and beyond -though one may not upgrade to an S model today, that same customer is also not "upgrading" to another brand.

The X100 feels like a lifetime digital in our throw away society. Of course, it isn't ... but Fuji can expect this customer to knock on their door when that day comes. Bravo again.

Totally agree.

I usually switch cameras quite often, but the X100 I have since launch.
The new firmware just makes it even better.

I don't understand what you refer to by "smeary look". Do you mean with some non native wides.
The X-trans 16mp sensor is not smeary in any way. It's one of the sharpest clearest outputs i have seen.

I love the classic x100 look as well but I don't think it is sharper or better resolving (if that is what you are suggesting.. maybe you're not).

f16sunshine... they are referring to how the X-Trans sensor blurs detail. It can be easily seen in green foliage.

yes that's what i was referring to. see my post here as an example:

Off on this tangent of blurry greens . . . leafs photograph "smeared" because they are small, usually far away and are ever moving (even slightly) by the slightest air movement. Happens all the time with my Nikon and X100 - need very fast shutter speeds to stop this.

If there are examples to correct my thinking about smeared details with Fuji sensors . . . ?

EDIT: FA Limited, I looked at the EXIF data on that picture you linked to - there is no shutter speed recorded, so I can't say how that plays against my comments here.

the shutter speed was a tad slower, but then again the front blades of grass weren't particularly blurry. perhaps the quality isn't as bad but i need to do some more testing for sure. i had a sigma merrill with me as which was clearly sharper but perhaps my pixel peeping expectations are too high.

Thanks a ton folks :) I appreciate all the feedback to the question(s).

There are a number of X100's that pop up on Craigslist / Kijiji here locally to me so I may snag one.

However . . . (because there's always a "however" :D )

The comments that Gary made make me pause - I currently still use LR 4 for my processing. I have yet to upgrade to LR 5.
Having used the X-Trans sensor in the past (with the Xpro1) I don't know if I want to go back to it right now... but those other benefits of the X100s over the X100 do look appealing. So perhaps more research is required.. I really need to "compare" both in my hand for myself. :)

Cheers,
Dave

I got my x100s about two months ago, and enjoy it immensely. With this update, though, I may have settled for a black x100 instead. Either way, you can't go wrong, though.
