Now (with a prime) the OMD feels like a real camera!

The Panny Leica 25mm f1.4 I got from Sug arrived today and now I actually feel like using the E-M5. I hated that damned kit lens it came with (14-42) and I'll probably sell it for whatever I can get for it because I can't see myself ever using it. Zooms drive me crazy ... having selective focal length causes me to over think composition and I'm far better off with primes!

That is a very nicely made little (?) lens and it focuses like lightning which the kit zoom didn't IMO. 50mm is a perfect focal length for me and I'm looking forward to trying the Oly out in ernest this weekend because so far it's been languishing in the cupboard due to that damned zooooom!

I'm not sure why I hate zooms quite as much as I do though? :p

You've got one of the sharpest M43 lens around. Surely will get good results. Would love to see what you will have after the weekend. Consider the 45 1.8 as well, it's a very good portrait and short telephoto lens. I'm waiting for the 75 1.8 coming soon.

I pretty much have my 14/2.5 or 50/1.4 on mine. My poor Leica hasn't got much use lately!

Looking forward to seeing the results Keith. I'll probably follow suit soon. First I'm going to see what my 24 mm zuiko is like after I get it back from a friend.

BTW, I just adjusted the diopter and manual focussing just got even easier! I This camera just keeps on giving :)

Glad you got it fairly painlessly! :D Looking forward to the photos.

And like gilpen123 said, consider 45/1.8 next. It is one marvelous lens that makes you appreciate the OM-D even more. ;) Only thing is that the 45mm won't be coming from me because I am sticking with it!

The other thing that arrived today was a couple of screen protectors from a Hong Kong eBay seller ... $6.50 for two incuding post ... how do they do that?

In spite of disliking the zoom I'm amazed at how much I've fondled this little camera  .... they really are a nice piece of work.

As a matter of interest John how much was the battery grip. No one seems to have them available up my way as yet and I'll definitely be wanting one when that 17.5mm Nokton finally arrives! :p

Does the 45mm focus relatively quick on the E-M5?

I have never gotten on with zooms; they make me a lazy photographer. I move less, since I can just zoom. Primes suit me far better and allow me to flourish creatively.

Glad you're enjoying your m4/3 camera!

I knew this would be the case - I'm exactly the same way with zooms, I just don't like them! But that little 25mm looks great - be sure to post some stuff with the combo Keith as there's many of us interested in this exact setup!

hey y'all em-5 owners with manual primes: is it actually really easy to focus with the EVF? using an EVF over an OVF would not bother me at all ...

It was $299. Seems a lot but it's like the rest of the camera and made to high specs and very solid. I paid $1399 for the 12-50 kit. I always planned to get the grip asap, so I was happy when I saw one there. It was a Camerahouse store. Not sure if you have them in Brissy.

To be totally honest unless I absolutely have to make it as small as possible, I'm not really interested in using the camera without the grip.

Very easy Paul ... much like a normal SLR with a good finder. And you have the option of zooming the view for critical focus.

I'd be very happy to use this camera in manual focus mode a lot of the time.

Pictures please mate :)

Have you tried it with OM lenses?

How does it feel compared to an OM-1?

Cheers

Give me a couple of hours and I'll post a pic of the combo ... the lens is quite big but not out of proportion IMO.
