DURHAM, NC (July 31, 2009) – The National Press Photographers Association has objected to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano's remarks earlier this week on Fox News that the public should be suspicious of photographers, and have told her as much today in a letter from NPPA leadership.

I am suspicious of people who use Google Earth or buy postcards and maps of the stars especially if they wear a dark hoodie like one shown in the video from Homeland Security. ;-)

Remember when we talked about "how" journalism had destroyed is credibility?
Well this is somewhat a byproduct of distrust. Is homeland security wrong, yes but the ability to use journalism's need to fake or stage photos for the benefit of clowns like this are real. Also you can see that there has been a wave of legal "BS" thrown at photographers. In the US..all a result of lawyers trying to find a way to make everything "infringement" lawsuit.
This Women is in particular a really brainless. the list of stupid things she did as Gov. of Arizona is disgraceful. But public feedback is the best weapon in this case...start a program asking does HLS Sec. Napolitano, know the difference between a real photo and a fake photo?? Is Napolitano both judge and jury of photograpy? I would suggest pushing that issue. Also pushing press shooters to clean up their act...may be the editors, even more so.
Remove the doubt by not trying to invent a better selling truth.
But the govt. will be willing to supress anything that make them look bad. That is a trueism of history...party in power always plays....CYA

Why does this woman hold any public office?

Why does this woman hold any public office?
She was an appointee of the present administration, not an elected official. DHS is a cabinet-level position, IIRC.
Her experience as Arizona governor, in dealing with border issues, supposedly earned her credibility, especially for the new President who was intent on refocusing "Homeland" security issues from terrorism to illegal immigration. But those in her home state who've followed her politics seem to differ as to her effectiveness. Which makes one wonder about the new President's discernment in picking appointees.
