Nude Self Portraits

I knew I'd get posts like Pepto's. So here's the thing.

I've done nudes before. None of them will be shown here. They are self portraits, they are good, and they were done with various cameras. This isn't something that I've pulled out of a depressed mind. Why I said that it might help my depression is that I would be doing something that I love and finally doing the nude shots I've been waiting to do for a while. I'm not doing this for attention or for money. I just want to do it.

I'm very comfortable with the idea. I may or may not show my face. I'm planning on some of them being abstract nudes. I'm not starved for attention; I knew how much attention this thread would get and that some of it (read: Pepto2) may be negative. I was prepared to deal with the consequences of posting this to get some advice.

So, in conclusion. Yes, I've been depressed. Yes, this is something I've wanted to do for a long time and it isn't just a spur of the moment thing because I'm in debt. No, I'm not calling out for attention. I've grown to really respect the people here and that is why I'm asking this.

So no more posts like Pepto's, okay? Just know that I *did* think about this for two years or so before I decided that it's something I wanted to do.

Also, the reason I asked if you'd be okay with seeing them is for just that reason: a lot of the people on this forum ARE old enough to be my dad and SOME act like it once in a while. 😛 I wanted a yea or neigh before I went and posted the shots here.

Great! I think most of us are cool with it provided that it's good art. What was your next question, Stephanie?

One thing I was wondering is where the heck to get a cable release for the Canon P. Will any of them do? I also have to figure how long I'd want it.

A friend of mine, who did some nude self portraits, used an air release like this one:

Don't know about length but the standard tapered thread works great on my Canon.

In that case, I'd say do what you're comfortable with. I (and others apparently) just felt a warning was warranted so that you didn't do this on a whim and regret it later.
Good luck with your venture. Who knows ... maybe you're the new Edward Weston.

I don't see a problem with the idea, shoot 'em, if you're satisfied then post 'em. You sound mature enough to know what you're doing. I assume you'll be able to develop them yourself so the geeks at the minilab won't be making copies for themselves.
Just remember that if you decide to run for a political office or become a conservative talkshow host there may be issues 🙂.

Good Luck,
Todd

Yeah, I'll be developing them myself. I figure that I'll try different films...I'd love to try some Pan-F or Efke 25. I think my main problem will be getting the lighting right. Is there anything anyone would recommend in that regard? I have a couple of those high powered lights that you can hang on things...can't remember what they're called at the moment. I think that if I can find some good bulbs to put in them they'll work okay.

Yes, you are all correct. I'm a complete jerk. just out to hurt a little budding artist. OK. All of you who said go for it, what if this was your daughter? and she was having problems with depression and finances? I am sure if you came across this post, from your child or someone you care about with the issues that have been presented here you would say go for it. its a great art form. do it! dont worry about the other issues in your life, express yourself!yeah right. If she is really suffering from all she has said she is all who encouraged her should be ashamed af themselfs. If on the other hand this is a shameless attempt to get attention she should be ashamed. either way, it has nothing to do wit being a prude it is either not wanting to encourage a young girl to do something she may well regret or not believing a word that comes out of a attention starved entity on the internet. yeah right im a prude and an a**h***. tell yorself that as you look at your daughter tonight. then imagine your next door neighbor encouraging your daughter to do it knowing she is having emotional problems at the time...."hey baby, its art , And I'll give ya fifty bucks...."

Any standard cable release will work on a Canon P.

By which I HOPE you meant that they are kindly people who wish you well and try to keep your best interests at heart!

Stephanie, I look forward to seeing your artistic nude's if you happen to show them 🙂 Oh and that air release thing looks kind of funky. Would be hard to hide tho, unless it was the timed one 🙂

pepto2 has been deleted.

i know who pepto is and rj, besides being incorrect in your guess, please don't poke the members with a big stick.
