i'd like to point out that i live in canada.

or maybe that's the same thing as living in norway and denmark or france and

spain?

No Joe, but the gent who makes the rules is not in Canada :)

And the Canadians I know seem pretty relaxed about this sort of thing :)

Cheers, Ian :)

live and let live is the way of the Great Frozen North eh.

the rules are a hodge podge of both old and new owners, that were created as the need presented itself.

i don't pretend to have the wisdom to create a set of rules that would make all happy and keep the members satisfied.
as i stated before, i am neither art critic nor expert in porn and the vulgar.

i'm just a simple man, doing a volunteer job for the love of it.

lately it has not been difficult to tell when a controversial thread is about to come to an end.

:) It's been a great couple of days to be an American on RFF. First the "fat" thread and now we are accused of setting the rules for what is, and has always been, a private/commercially-owned forum. :) Now if only FrankG was American we'd have the hat-trick. :) :)

Actually, I think it's pretty great that both RFF and CameraQuest are American enterprises, and that people from all over the world gather here to gain inspiration, talk about RF cameras. I've looked and I've found nothing quite like RFF or CameraQuest on the internet. So while some wish this place were Canadian or European-based, it isn't, and I doubt it could ever have been.

Jorge is a dork, Stephen a shrewd businessman, but without their efforts both at RFF and CameraQuest we wouldn't be having so much fun.

Joe in all sincerity I applaude you at doing a heck of a job. Thanks for deleting that "so called painting" which in all reality was a porn picture that can be seen by opening any men's magazine.

I went to that losers web site, and i'm sure he will certainly have a field day out of this. BTW I noticed he has plenty of "ART":D :D

Ok, enough with the discussions about censorship and the philosophical concepts of art vs pornography. Let's get back to talking about gear. :D

Hello Gbhill,
I understand you don't like it, and I fully appreciate that it is a disturbing painting, but please you shouldn't regard it as a porn picture, as it is not. It's a famous and important painting in the Realist School.
Art is of course debatable, it's a matter of disagreement but not of denigration. If it is considered as porn, then I support radical banning of all nudes on RFF, even for adults

All in vain. Genitalia = porn , basta.:D The idea that the explicit depiction of genitalia per se is not porn yet, that rather the artists intentions decide if it is porn or not got not popular everywhere in the world since the Victorian era has ended.

The borderlines separating art or "Erotica" from simple porn always and everywhere have been dynamic and very "elastic" during the last 2500 years. It's a matter of tolerance. And the less afraid a social community is of sexuality the more tolerance can it grant at this point.;) Very simple.

Again, I am a newcomer here, so take the comment for what it's worth.
But it seems to me that the moderators' time would be better-spent
defusing and deleting ad hominem attacks on members than on deleting
the photographs posted by members. I realize the moderators are only
enforcing the site owner's rules -- I do not mean this as a criticism of
the moderators, but, rather, a suggestion that the site owner reconsider
the rules and their priorities.

I second that!!!

May I add that RFF is not a chatroom ...

but if we limited the gallery to art, there wouldn't be many photos in it.

Possibly the funniest comment amongst many funny comments here. :)

A couple of points:

I don't think it's catastrophic that the picture was deleted. If the photographer was actually active here at all, he could have let us all know where else to find it. If he's not the least little bit interested in RFF and its member's opinions, then I'm not going to cry over his pictures being deleted. Big deal. It was one photo.

I saw the photo in question and if it wasn't bad art is certainly wasn't good porn :). My comment in the original thread, gone with all the rest *sniff* was that I thought the colours, lighting and background were wonderful but that I wasn't sure about the pose.

I don't see though, Jenni, why one needs to get offended by such pictures - even if it was pornographic. I have indeed seen pictures of aroused male genitalia (possibly mentioned in the l-camera-forum ?) (supposed to be art). Big deal.

Personally, I think all genitalia and acts of sex should be banned. So there. That would solve all of the world's problems.

Sanders, you don't need to keep saying that you're new here and that your opinions are not so important. :) You're still a great photographer, even if you've got a Leica, so you can say what you like with as much, or more, authority as anyone. (Just don't mention a word beginning with P).

Isn't it? The reason I joined was chatting with other RF users, but I may have been wrong.

I always wear clothes when viewing the RFF gallery ... or attending a bricks & mortar gallery, for that matter.

Colin, you are kind. I very much appreciate that communities,
real or virtual, are organic and that newcomers ought be sensitive
to the structures and relationships that matured before they
arrived. I simply wanted to honor those structures and relationships
with the caveat.

But your post does leave me with a question. What P-word? *uppy?
*eriwinkle? Harry *otter?

Great forums such as this should have rules to keep the participants in bounds. If one of us doesn't agree with a moderator's action or the policies in general, I'd say fell free to establish your own forum and website. It isn't a big deal. I'm an adult and can decide what I want to see and when. It doesn't have to be here.
