normally my xpan would show the number of film shots left on the electronic dial.

lately, it has just been showing a P letter

could someone tell me if something is wrong?
or what is going on with my xpan?
perhaps a setting is off?
thanks

Is the film loaded correctly? If I dont get the end of the leader far enough onto the take up side, or the film bends as I close the back, it sometimes doesn't pick up the end of the leader and so it doesn't wind the film out and then the frame counter shows P. When this happens the motor only whirrs briefly when winding the film out instead of winding the full roll (just as it does if you open and close the back without a film in).

Graham's answer is worth checking - the only other time my X-Pan does not show the frame numbers is if I set the camera to Panoramic format when I only have enough film left for one standard frame - but the 'P' usually flashes if this is the case

it s kind of hilarious and perculiar

first the reason without any counter numbers was because there was no film moving
but the very odd thing was that the roll was definitely loaded before. i know since i was shooting with that film inside

for the xpan, as one takes photos, the negative is slowly wound back into the canister
could it ever happen that the xpan does not roll it all the way back? leaving the leader lying out ????
