Hello
A while ago I read a story about a magazine in New York (I think) that was started by a couple. The magazine was described as reminding of early playboy. They used kind of natural-looking models and did all their photoshoots with film.
I don't remember if I read it on RFF or somewhere else. But I've tried here and google to try and find it but I can't.
Does anyone know the article or the magazine I'm talking about?

Jacques is the coolest current flesh mag I've seen. Modern playboy and penthouse etc suck badly - all of the girls look exactly the same and the photos are airbrushed and flat and perfectly lit - tasteless.

French Playboy is supposed to be quite good. I've never bought an issue but I've seen a couple of very nice editorials for it on photographer's websites.

Their photos are funny to me, like all exploitation nude photography, its funny because how many facial expressions can those models really come up with when trying to titillate the viewer? Exposing of flesh can go so far. It does not matter if they shoot film or digital, imo its just bad photography plain and simple.

How many facial expressions do you really need in a fashion shoot for Vogue/etc? Does that mean 99% of the portraits out there are bad photos?

Absolutely.

Dude, keep your opinions to yourself, seriously. Elitism gets really tiresome after a while.

As long as an opinion is expressed with civility there is nothing wrong with it. Opinions are formed to be expressed, those without opinions are not intelligent enough to form them.

In case a certain opinion by someone else gets into your nerves, despite having no relation to you, it means you need to go back and form some opinions of your own so you won't feel insecure.

Elitism is a matter of perception and it has no factual relevance to a discussion forum.

I'd suggest you keep your bubbling emotions off the E-world.

Opinions backed by ignorance and misinformation are about as useful as a life jacket on a cactus. Open-mindedness will always trump opinionated ignorance.

It's fine if you don't like fashion photography - I get by now that you're a street photography 'purist'. I however love fashion photography, so expect me to defend it when given the opportunity. My mother has always said to me "if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all."

There are definitely a couple of girls on that site who have the same catching flies expression in every photo. I agree it's amusing.
