Oh I get it Cal... it's smart to do. I just don't do it and you won't be able to tell with my 58mm and 85mm wide open. I guess I need something 1.2 or faster for this to matter?

Also consider if you get kinda close to your subject, like say a tight head and shoulders shot, DOF gets shallow in an amplified manner.

That focus indicator I find really useful. Also the Autofocus on the 24/1.4 is mighty good. Didn't have to tune it in. The OOF on the 28 is really cool with the lens wide open. Not so progressive as with other lenses but you still get subject isolation. This is a great lens for me.

It's the best AF that I've experienced... and that is regarding the Df which supposedly has inferior AF. It's the main reason for my switch to DSLRs. They just work right.

To me, the D800e feels like a medium format camera. It's been a long time since I've used something this big for photography.

It doesn't have one, bit I've read Nikon will have a Firmware update for it soon.

Thanks, it's my wife's camera, of course I bought it for her and was very surprised it was not possible. But she manages to photographs in spite of this!

The D800E surely can get MF like results. It is a crazy camera.

Funny thing is that the DF is inferior with its 31 focus points when compared to my 51 focus points on my D3X, and that basically all I need and use is one focus point. LOL.

It makes Digital sense, the new D810 is out so down with the prices plus
I'm sure Sony and Nikon is fast a work on a 50 or so megapixel camera
now to compete with the Canon 5DS

I rented a D800e for a weekend when they first came out. I wanted to check out how it copied negatives. For negative copy work it came very close to the Imacon/Hasselblad Flextight scanner in terms of resolution and quality. I also got an adapter an put my Hasselblad lens on it as I didn't have any Nikon glass at the time. I was very impressed with the camera, The only drawback that I found was that the viewfinder was not as big as I liked - me being a manual focus kind of guy.

I call semi pro. it's not up to the standards of the D4 and DF even my
D2Xs may be a bit more refined sorry.

Not sure which nikons still use cf cards..?? I have an 8 gig lexar and a 1 gig sandisk i havent used in forever. I think the d2x still uses them.. Ill bring them to the next meetup, maybe someone can use them..

I don't know about that. It's a tank. It just feels clunkier. I'm pretty sure I'll feel that way about all of them outside the Df. Results are good though... but that's predictable. Maybe I should trade it for a silver Df. 😉

Unfortunately the d2x had a horrible accident during some experimentation.. Got ran over by a race car. Lol
