New York NYC February Meet-Up

ok, looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. I have a killer hand-made camera strap that I had an artist made for me in Paris in the late 70s to show off. I have Cal's Tilt-All in my sights .

Sorry folks, can't make it today. Caught a cold this season .
Last night I had to forego a Ravi Coltrane concert for which I had a ticket, that says it all.
Have tons of fun at gearfest parade :). Attract GAS but no cold.

Feel better Klaus. We'll catch up the next time. Remember, take 2 shots of Jack's and repeat as necessary.

Thanks for the well wishes JM.
I might be in trouble, no Jack's but I guess a Lagavulin should work as well. Gettin' my medicine ....

All that phenol in the wonderful Islay malt spirit should definitely help get rid of your cold! Do feel better!

It turned out to be a huge meet up, and the camera pageant was also quite civilized, no blood, no biting whatsoever, lol. The pageant entries were full of characters, some entries look like those were dug from graves. I am glad to be able to make it this time. Here are some photos from this meet up. Hope there are more to come by other participants :)

Thanks for posting these Tung. I didn't see the little pentax though. There was a lot of variety, and no shelf queens (I think). Cool of the Philly crowd to make the trek.

Nice photos Tung. That Noct-Nikkor certainly delivers. Hey, which camera took home the grand prize?

Jean-Marc,

Congradulations goes to our new champion Sam for his retro-modern entry that was the right combination of old large format camera with a poloroid back update. Sam's camera got bonus points from me because it featured a grip, LOL. Also it was a shooter and to promote the camera Sam was wise to bring shots taken with the camera.

John's 110 Pentax was really cool, but I gave him demerits because he left the motordrive with the added grip at home. I hope John did not take insult when I went to mount my keys on the wrist strap like it was part of a key-ring.

My personal favorite was Jim's 1929 IIIC that was obsessively rigged out with mucho accessories. I really liked the Leica pero-scope attachment for "Perv" mode. The obsessive character of this camera really projected attitude, and although a small LTM the personality of this camera was mucho loud. The idea that Helen Levit shot a similar rig back in the day when street photography evolved was great backstory and nice history. I loved that it had a trigger winder. To me this camera had the most character.

A really nice/exceptional rig was a colaboration combination of Phil's D3X that was ultimized for manual focus with a cut down Canon screen with a split prism combined with Tung's Noct Nikkor. What a killer rig. "Brutal," I say.

I wish I could be there for the Beauty Contest. I also wish I had a new camera to enter with ;)

Damaso,

The tradition started over 5 years ago continues. This February was our fifth annual gearfest/contest/pagant/parade and sometime this fall later this year will be the sixth anniversity that you started the thread about having a NYC Meet-Up. Over this time we have been meeting monthly consistently except for one month where we had two meet-ups to make up for one that got skipped due to scheduling.

Understand that there have been unexpected flash mobs, invasion from the "Jersey Boys" where the New Yorkers might have been outnumbered, and now we have a sizable contingent from Philly that are regulars. Perhaps the only people under-represented are people from Conn.

Anyways thanks for starting that thread so long ago.
