SMUT: WOW someone else I know wants to check out my Monochrom we all know that already has mucho gear.

Steve has an overhauled IMACON that he secured for no money.

Anyone interested in Kodak 5222??? I'm going to use up the last of my 135 Acros and Arista Premium and go 5222 bulk load for small format. I figure Diafine at 400 ISO and ADOX at 250 ISO. BTW I mistakenly shot 5222 at 800 ISO (didn't acout for a 1-stop filter factor on a meterless camera) and developed in Diafine 4+7 and got surprising results. This film has mucho lattitude, and doesn't seem to compress contrast as much as Tri-X. Perhaps it will be like Acros and not need a hard contrast push via filters.

I sent my Wetzlar M6 off to Sherry to get my framelines modded. Tried to get the M4 frames installed (I like the larger frames, 50mm alone and the supersized RF patch), but it was too great an expense. Instead I had the 75mm frames removed. Sherry also replaced my RF windows stating that they were in "Poor Condition." I should have my camera back for February. Now I only own 5 Leicas. LOL.

Not sure if we want to have another Camera Beauty Contest in February. Any feelings about possibly toning down the gear lust and GAS???

I love the Beauty Contest but if it gets much bigger than the last year we're gonna have to rent out the Javits Center.
Ok, it's not that big 😀

I'm gonna make it a point to make it as long as I don't have a shoot going on.

I'll bring that goat leather for your F3. Right now the date is open so try to figure out your schedule.

For me later in the month likely means warmer weather.

Also this year let's make February "GEARFEST 2014" another big event. Time to gather up the odds and ends for a swap-meet.

The stock market is up, and I miss day trading. Have M3-DS that was factory serviced by Leica with a fresh brand new "L" seal; a 1970 chrome M4 that was overhauled by Sherry last year (was a shelf Queen that had "L" seal intact); Black paint Nikon F2 with black DE-1 eye-level prism.

Will trade for a cool metered M-body that has distinction (0.85 VF'er prefered). Also looking for a mucho big calibrated monitor; 135 and 120 Hewes reels and 2 liter SS tanks; D-50 viewing booth; 21/3.4 Super Elmar.

Cal, the Eastman 5222 is a film that is meant to be shot without filtration. It has more red sensitivity than most standard black and white emulsions which is probably where that latitude comes from. Under tungsten light, the ISO is rated at 250 and under daylight it is rated lower, about 200. It pulls ok and pushes very well.

MQ type developers do well with 5222.
It was designed for processing in developer like D76, so D76 provides very consistent results.
I think a dilute developer with half normal agitation and added time, maybe half again more depending upon temperature, is a good start for 5222. With too much agitation, it can really get contrasty as well as grainy. I like almost stand developing it but a very gentle and very occasional agitation.
My favorite developer for everything is HC-110 but that's because it lasts so long and I like mixing up fresh stock with every few tanks. In the end, it's CHEAP too.

Make sure you give it a good wash before developing. It's not REMJET that it is coated with but a lubricant akin to soap for high speed movement through motion picture cameras. On my first roll I ever did, I got uneven development supposedly due to not soaking the film. I've always soaked the film but I was in a rush at the lab that day and just threw it in the developer.

I love Nikon F3's. I'll be bringing some super soft Italian Goat leather for Bob to recover his F3HP. I recovered my F3HP and it is very cool. Someone remarked that I upgraded to a F3P (and the "P" is for Prada). LOL. BTW I also own a F3P that was a real press camera.

BTW Beware of the GAS.

No money by my definition means a deal that is unlikely to happen again where even with the added cost of repairs, updates or an overhaul still means a good deal where you can basically in the future get all your money back ore make a profit.

Buy low and sell high they say on Wall Street. No money also means "bargains" where you can't really loose money.

Having missed the beauty contest two years in a row now, I hope it'll happen this year. I also like the idea of opening it up for all cameras. Wouldn't mind seeing non Leica Franken cameras that christian has cooked up

Thanks for the good info. I'm thinking of mixing my own ADOX as a one-shot. I like the idea of extending development by reducing aggitation for finer grain and less contrast (compensating effect). Secondly I can see developing with stock for sharpness and detail and also 1+1 for tonality.

For me the basic idea is to blast away and just shoot as much film as possible to become a better shooter. Also a goal of mine is to be able to shoot meterless, and shooting only one film extensively for me is the way to go.

Diafine at 400 ISO I think also will be good. My trick there is to minimize aggitation to only two very gentle inversions for better mid-range and finer grain.

Pro-Mone,

I think the idea of a parade adds the most diversity and for me I like to create a memorable spectical.

At the Javets Center I met some videographer. I'm hoping that I can find his contact info because he was interested in recording our annual event.

I think only John and Andre are the only two people who have seen all my cameras at one, but that was a while ago and now there are additions.

Another dumb idea passed through my mind after watching the Golden Globe Awards.

How about having a "Red Carpet" so that every camera can make a grand entrance and not get lost in a crowd.

Also typically we sometimes make the the same Sunday as the "Grammy Awards." When are the Grammy Awards being held? Perhaps we should maintain the tradition.

Also we can riff off the awards like the best dressed camera, best supporting camera (not your main camera), best bokeh...

I encourage people to recycle un-needed gear by participating in the swap meet, and of course.
