Everybody,
Let's make the February Meet-Up the 23rd. On the 16-18th is the "Traders' Expo" held in Times Square. I'm not sure if I will go to this year's expo yet, been 7 years since I gamed the market.

Randy, as long as you don't mind me parking in Jersey City and taking the PATH into the city, I'll still be driving and you're still welcome along. Of course, if the weather is like it is today, I'll be staying inside.

I sure wish I could join you next month as I did in November. That's especially true now that I have a new camera to show off. Since I was there in November, I acquired an M9. It was for sale on RFF by someone in Portland, I just drove over to his house and picked it up! After paying for it first, of course 🙂
But you are lucky to have another visitor from Oregon in February so all will be good 🙂

Happy New Year and congrates on the new M9.
I just wanted to thank you again for the thoughtful gift. The Leica Noctilux coffee mug is truely a luxury item and now I'm spoiled.
"Maggie" commented on the design and elegant ergonomics, and I was compelled to purchase a second Leica mug for her use. Every morning and afternoon when I either have a dose of coffee or tea. We experience a lot of comfort every day because of your thoughtful gift. Thank you again.
When you come back to New York I'd love to take you shooting.
BTW the February Meet-Up is a celebration of gear. Glad you are sharing your report of new acquistions.

Hi Bob,
Thanks Bob. So far I'm enjoying the M9 but I've had to get adjusted to a few of its quirks. Tomorrow I'll be taking it to the Oregon Coast to capture some images.
I spoke with my daughter, who lives in Brooklyn, and she said she had 12" of snow in her neighborhood. I told her I was planning on waiting until this winter weather passes before I come out again 🙂

You are more than welcome for the gift of the coffee mug. I was happy I could bring a Leica goodie to the meet up. I had no idea, though, that I "forced" you to buy one for Maggie! Well, lucky for her to get one, too. LOL.
I would love to go shooting with you in New York. But, as I'm sure you can understand, I won't be going back there until the warmer weather returns to the city. I'm hoping to come back in the spring. Also, my high school reunion will be in July in the Washington, D.C. area so I'll definitely be coming to New York for a side trip while I'm in D.C. for the reunion.
Also, I just got back some scans of my Velvia slides that I took while in New York in November including some images I took while walking across the Brooklyn Bridge at sunset. I am starting to upload them to my pbase.com gallery (link is in my signature). I'll probably post a few images here on RFF, too.

I'm waiting for warmer weather also. For health reasons I have to avoid the cold AMAP because of circulation problems. Not only am I very rare individual, but I also have a very rare disease. The cold can cause me to turn blue like a Smurf because my blood thickens due to an unusual high level of IgM antibody. Anyways the Center For Disease Control considers Cold Agglutinin Disease a rare disease with no cure. About 1 in 80,000 people in the U.S have this disease, and perhaps about a hundred people out of NYC's eight million have this rare disease.
My Hematologist says I a bit of a medical mystery because he would expect a very sick patient with my high levels, and for some strange unknown reason my blood does not "Hemalize," and I do not suffer from life threatening Anemias where I would need blood transfusions to live. My CAD is considered "Idiopathic" meaning for some unknown cause. Last year I went through the Cancer scare, got a second opinion, and underwent all kinds of testing that included MRI's and PET scans. Also went to a Lymphoma specialist, but my CAD has been confirmed is not due to any Cancer. It is truely "idiopathic."
I find the cold to be particularly fatiguing, and all I can do is avoid and limit my exposure to cold to prevent cell damage. A warm climate for retirement would be nice, but NYC is my home. Anyways looking forward to going shooting with you.

GEAR ALERT: I decided because John thinks of my cameras collectively as "Monsters" that I might celebrate "Gear Parade 2014" with at least one camera that John might like instead of annoying him. LOL.
Last year I bought a very clean black1980 MD-2 that was made in Canada. I make it a point that the Canadian version is the rare version and one report says only about 1K were made. Overall there are two conflicting reports about the overall production total: one states only 3K MD-2's ever produced; and another reports only 2.6K produced. (German and Canadian)
I bought the camera at B&H with the box. It is very clean condition so I didn't think it was a copy stand camera that was abused, but the forensics suspects me to believe that perhaps it likely was a microscope camera. It came "boxed" which is another reason that initially believed (wishful thinking and being an optimist) that this MD-2 was good-to-go, until I took my new lucky find home and proceeded to jam the shutter.
Oh-Well they say. I next sent this MD-2 to Sherry for an overhaul. Meanwhile I called Fidel to secure the black TA Rapidwinder that I only sold to him perhaps a month or two before.
My idea was to secure a Leica 21/3.4 Super Elmar to create an ultimate ultrawide rig. There was a remarkable used 21 SEM available at Pop Flash, and I pulled out the plastic card with the magic numbers to buy it, but I was told by Alex at Pop Flash that it was not on the shelf because someone else must of just bought it.
I used the powers of the internet and like the NSA decided to mine information. I used a RFF PM to ask Jean-Marc if he is the guilty party who sniped my 21 SEM with the remarkable good price that came "boxed" and found out it was that no good Jean-Marc who sniped my lens. LOL.
John is a minimalist as far as gear. I know the grips I use annoy him, LOL, as well as all the loads of acessories I use. But since I recently bought a rare/late Canon 28/3.5 in LTM that is a tiny lens that I know John likes a lot, (at the last meet-up I showed John my new lens, and he said,'I like that lens a lot,") that I would build a small minimalist ultra-wide camera.
For those who like to shoot in flurries of three-round-bursts I'll bring a TA Rapidwinder and TA Rapidgrip to go Calzone mode. LOL.
Know that when I'm not driving my friend John crazy that I tend to drive myself crazy. LOL.

It's funny, but I like all of your lower end gear... your F2 and F3 (goat), and now the Canon 28mm.
I want to see that MD2 with the Canon 28mm.
What really matters is that it works for you though (your equipment). I just make fun of you (as you do to me), because we are with each other shooting up to 8 hours at a time.

Please be careful. I don't want to have to come visit you in in any secret location where you might get water-boarded.
Also understand in Queens Plaza some truck driver thought I was an undercover cop because I was wearing a Gossen Luna Pro light meter around my neck. Evidently he had called 911 and was waiting a long time for a response. When he saw me he said,"Its about time you arrived." Only after we both sorted through all the confusion did we understand that this was just another case of mistaken identity.
Another time also in Queens Plaza some guy thought that my Nikon F3P was a handgun. It was kinda interesting seeing him running for cover and trying to create as much distance as possible like I was some mean bad-ass. It is kinda understandable because the way I carry a camera in my right hand dangling from my side all the time like some gun slinger. LOL.
Seriously be careful. I don't want anything bad to happen. Post September 11th people tend to go to the same dark places, and its clearly shoot first and ask questions later.

ah yes, John-san, the issue is being arrested or shot at by New York's finest, not to mention its weight -- which I was told emulated the real Lewis gun. I think I'll just post some photos...it's safer for all of us.
