To all New Yorkers!

I'll be in the city this weekend to celebrate my birthday and to search for a job! I was originally planning to move to NY in September, but after being laid off from my job last month, I'm reconsidering the date of the move! So I'll be in the city hunting.. Any photographers need an assistant? ;)

Anyone interested in getting together and shooting?

If you are willing to work for free, sure. There are plenty of takers for very low pay. Not saying you couldn't find work, but the job market here for photography has shrunk greatly the past 10 years. I know plenty of people that closed their studio doors and laid off their assistants to cut back on expenses. Don't let me discourage you, but you'll be one of many. I was a long time member of the photo work force here. I was laid off 3 years ago. While I work, I do lots of different things other then photography to stay alive and help feed my family.

Good luck and happy birthday fellow Aquarian!

Happy Birthday.

Also finally processed a 4 roll tank of Tri-X at 3200 with interesting and pleasing results. Since I own a Noct-Nikkor its really too much film speed. I'm going to do another tank with HP5 at 1600 and Tri-X at 1200 in the same tank with Microphen. I'm searching for richer mids.

PM me if you might be interested in a day job in a hospital. BTW I identify myself as an artist with a day job.

I don't know what your field is but I know someone who owns an IT tech support company that is looking for people.

If you just want to hang out, I just got my NYC sightseeing guide license. I could use the practice showing someone around.

You need a license???
I did not know that, I guess it makes sense, but kind of funny..

"You must have a Sightseeing Guide license to guide or direct people to any place or point of public interest."

Yeah. So according to the city of New York you can't even give directions without it. And the test is insane. 150 questions about 2-4 paragraphs each covering a variety of NYC history and notable people. At least it was multiple choice. I took the test to apply for a job with a company that gives photo tours. I was offered the job but backed out when they wanted me to sign a 3 year post employment non-compete contract.

Yeah, I remember your post.. I always see a guy on the N/R giving tours, takes vacation pictures of the clients during the tour.
I think you were better off not taking it as well....
