New York NYC Holiday Meet Up?

Saturday or Sunday afternoon could be great. Some places are pretty quiet at that time and now that the Christmas shopping crowds are gone. I was thinking that downtown makes it pretty easy for everyone to get to whether you're coming from Jersey or one of the outer boroughs. I was also going to encourage people to bring some of their work, maybe a couple of prints they like, a book or just an iPhone/iPod with some of your images so we can have an idea of everyone's vision.

Count me in.

I'll second this suggestion. Damaso brought some postcards and we also had a book by, wait, who brought the book? Wait a minute . . .

in my defense, it was my wife who suggested I bring the book

Nah, it was nice to be able to hold a book like yours and actually see it. I'd like to see more work by others, too. It's such a different experience to have a picture in your hands than to just see it on screen. +1 for this idea.

Location suggestion:

Phebe's - a pub at Bowery and E 4th street. Good, basic pub which I think would well accommodate a large group.

January, weekend? I'm in. Manhattan is good, I can think of one or two places here (Park Slope), and one place in my previous Brooklyn nabe (Teddy's, in Greenpoint, but relax, it's just a few blocks from the L train at Bedford Avenue).

I'll start a new thread next week, perhaps complete with poll so we can vote on where we'd like to meet. It seems like the weekend is a better time for people to meet up...

Damaso,

Thanks for getting us all together. The last event was fun. I appreciate your effort for following through.

My pleasure Cal. I figured it might be nice to actually see some people in the flesh for a change!

Damaso: I'll definitely be on the lookout for that thread, but you might want to leave a link in this thread when you do, so none of us will miss it. :)

And, I second the idea of people bringing prints/books/portfolios of their stuff. Leave the laptops at home (unless that's all you've got to show your stuff with), I want to see stuff I can hold in my hands.

Damaso,

Since you are a beer hound, what about David Copperfield's? I gave you the beer menu that constantly gets updated. Ninety-one differant beers, some with alcohol content in the double-digits. There is also a beer tasting sampler that allows a personalized selection of five beers for $18.00.

The location is 74th and York. Nearest subway is the six train at 68th and Lex.

The food is also good.

Got Chivas, maybe Johnny Walker Red?

I'll join in the fun too if you'll have me...

I've been trying to put a Long Island-NY based Leica/Rangefinder group together for a couple of weeks now... got some interested and was thinking of starting a group on Meetup.com but there's already one there that isn't at all very active...

Amy: Don't know how many LI RFf'ers there are, but I would hope you'd make it to this meet-up. This is a bit like herding cats, of course...:)

As promised, here are some of the shots from the evening.

!! I'm pretty sure I met the gent with the Panerai and the Santa Claus hat at Photo Village, the Monday before New Year's! If it wasn't him, it was his identical twin, buying a Softie.

Hello,

That was me. If I am correct; you were checking out M7's and M6's and were from Canada.
