Its already January 4th, and I want to create a decisive moment.

We will meet-up at John's recomendation: the Puck Fair Bar at 298 Lafayette just below Houston at 1:00 PM on January 22d. Hope you can make it.

GEAR ALERT: I will be bringing my Wetzlar M6 that has been recently serviced by Sherry that also features a MP finder upgrade. I assure you that I will pimp out my rig with all those great accessories that are expensive.

Sounds like it's time to create a Jan. meet up thread!

22nd sounds good to me.

Hey Cal: just be careful between now and then climbing around old rusty abandoned things over in LIC. If you fall into the Newtown creek you'll definitely be in need of IV antibiotics probably for the next month or two to clear out the infections that dwell in that water. You probably would have to miss the meet-up :D ;)

I like how you described Newtown Creek as "Gone-O-rea infested water." LOL.

BTW it is estimated that over the centuries an oil spill three times the size of the Exxon Valdez has accumulated. In some places you can smell the oil. Once when I was shooting with John we saw a section of Newtown Creek that was the same color green as a two liter bottle of ginger ale, but I wouldn't drink the water. Newtown Creek is considered by many to be the most polluted waterway in the U.S., but only last year has it been made a Superfund Site; yet in 1975 the U.S. Coast Guard saw oil openly seeping into the creek from the groundwater.

Raw sewage has been dumped there as early as 1853, and today one third of NYC's sewage is treated there. This creek is considered so polluted that it can't be cleaned up. In a way it is like our version of Cher-no-bell. Even if the 15 feet of sludge is removed that streaches almost 4 miles inland this waterway will remain unsafe.

LIC is a great example of government neglect, decaying industry and abandonement.

Was that the section by the turquoise bridge? That water was more like mountain dew.

"Mountain Dew" is what you called it, and thanks for the quote.

It was when we shot the Grand Avenue bridge in East Williamsburg.

I haven't seen that water the same iridescent color since.

Carl,

The peacock in me will make me wear a dress shirt that I sewed and tailored with my Juki comercial sewing machine to display my skills, craftsmenship and lanky body.

Also I started another camera bag, but this one is made from Italian leather that I bought as a sample in the garment district that is another work in progress, and perhaps we can discuss your own custom bag design.

Could any of you digital weenies link my post with the rules to the Second Annual Leica M-Body Beauty Pagent that is on the December Meet-Up thread? Thanks in advance.

BTW if Barret can make it to the January Meet-Up, it will be a great opportunity to bribe the judge. I expect this years pagent to be even more aggressive and rowdy than last years event. LOL. Barret did a great job of inciting the audience, things got brutal, and we laughed so hard. It was interesting how a bunch of New Yorkers fought over a vintage issue of Leica Fotographia Internacional that featured the relitively new Leica M6 that was offered as the grand prize.

In this year's pagent, the winner will get a custom camera bag that they designed themselves for their winning Leica kit. Carl is excluded because he is a collector, but if he brings "The Brass Monkey" to the pagent, I will make him a bag.

Expect aggressive bare knuckles fighting this year for the prize. LOL.

I'm winning it all with this beauty!

For you lame totally analog guys who are like me; check out post number 92 in the December Meet-Up thread for the Second Annual Leica M-Body Beauty Pagent's rules.

It was impressive when we lined up all the contestents on the table like a runway. Last year we had two M9's in the competion. We labeled the one with the lower serial number "The Vintage M9." LOL.

The finalists will be judged on a two lens kit. Under the rules an unlimited amount of acessories is allowed/encouraged. Four VF'ers are allowed and five is better.

As usual, I just gave you a reason to buy more gear. Hurry up. The February Meet-Up is not that Far away.

Carl,

Call me a big tease, but I found a better prize for you for bringing the "Brass Monkey" to the Second Annual Leica M-Body Beauty Pagent. Also since I'm a clever slacker I bought an Original Benser leather camera bag that is period correct to go with your brassed out M2 with Leicavit for $20.00. The condition is exceptionally good, especially since its over 50 years old. It features three inserts a LE1, LE2 and LE5 for body w/lens mounted, stacked lenses and VF'er, and lastly a compartment/insert for film.

The coolest factor is there are cheat sheets for flash photography when fast film was 64 ASA, and there is yellowed US Customs Import Certificate for a complete kit that includes: Leica M2S; 35 Cron; 50 Cron; 90 Elmarit; and 135 Hekor. I presume that the "Brass Monkey" is a M2R. Am I correct? Leica nerds want to know!

This gets me off the hook for making you a bag, since you are a collector who has a "Ringer."

I will not disclose my source, but I have found a cool place to find old gear at no money. HA-HA.

If the criteria is 'beauty', then my M6 is rather unusual, but if we are counting accessories, I think I can put up some stiff competition.
I'll start out by giving my M6 an MPP finder upgrade!

Christian,

My M6 has been CLA'ed by Sherry and at that time I got a MP finder upgrade. Highly recommended, but there might not be enough time to get the work performed as Sherry already has work stacked up.

As some of you know I have a 28/3.5 Canon/Serenar and the really good Canon VF'er, but I may add a second VF'er because I have the VF'er from my Fuji G690 where the 65mm is a 28mm equivilent. My M6 will be a real freak because the Fuji VF'er will be bigger than the Canon/Serenar lens (about the size of m 50 Rigid Cron without a hood and lens cap). LOL.

Seriously, I'll bring the Serenar and VF'ers just for laughs. I humbly admit, that while you may have the biggest rangefinder with that Linhoff I might at least have the biggest viewfinder. HA-HA.

BTW I know you have some unique stuff that Carl unlikely has, and now you have good reason to bring it all out for entertainment value.

My MPP finder is one P better than an MP finder upgrade by Sherry, and I can assure you that it is bigger than your Fuji finder.
Game on!

Oh-Yeah. We'll see. The biggest rangefinder I know about is on the battleship New Jersey.

I expect a lot of laughs because last years event left me unable to breath with tears in my eyes.

It was also crazy see all that absurd amount gear/$$$.
