Devil Dan,

That Skier Box System looks to be well intergrated. I have to look into this light box I already own. Is having three settings useful? Do you mostly use only one setting?

I would use my SL2 with a 55/2.8 Macro Nikkor, 47.8 MP.

Devil Cal,

So far I used it on the brightest setting. It is uber bright and the light emission is tailored to provide maximum responsiveness to the digital chips.

Darr has it down cold. She teaches college level digitizing.

Lightbox is also good for making digital contact sheets.

I am using the heated vest as we speak.

The battery pack comes about 3/4 charged out of the box. I attempted to fully charge it, but pretty much it needs to be deep cycled and conditioned.

The vest is light in weight, and seems to be well made. It only took an hour to fully discharge each battery at the max heat setting each. Pretty much after a few cycles this will improve.

This might not be the warmth of a fireplace, but I can see it taking off the edge of bitter cold for an hour. I can also see it being nicer than a seater or sweatshirt when in the house on a cooling night, or in the early morning rather than turning up the house heat.

Less than half the price of a Milwaukee vest and machine washable while the Milwaukee version is not. The battery is about the size of a cell phone, and there are three heat settings. Of course I blasted the heat to deep cycle the battery.

The charger is not a fast or rapid charger.

No remorse yet, but I can see using this in the house a lot because it is so light, and with three setting pretty much I can dial in the level of comfort. When I practice guitar additional layers of clothing kinda get in the way. If I start getting cold I feel tired, so this vest stays out of the way and is lighter than a sweatshirt.

I wonder does it make sense to stock up now? Will tariffs and future inflation make now an envelope of opportunity?

My gut feeling is that this might be the last hurrah.

So I can see speculative opportunities, and I made a purchase today of a Bigsby B5 vibrato that is made in the USA. These Callahan upgrades for a Bigsby do not fit “imported” or licensed versions.

Then I see sales…

And I have some parts stockpiled…

Pretty much like a Chess game I am thinking of at least three moves ahead, and in this game of Chess it is not the opening, but the end-game.

I realize that I don’t have an Alder Tele. The the two Cabronita’s though are Alder, but are not really Tele’s because the pickups are different and not so bright, and are Humbuckers. Pretty much a very different animal/species.

I see a vintage style body for a bargain price of only $150.00. Cheap-cheap-cheap. There are small knots on the body, but this tiny defect I look upon as being cool. There are two, and I’m think of getting both because I’m greedy.

The thing is with a Bigsby, a Vibrato, makes for a very different guitar. They play differently, the balance is different, and the sound is different. Hmmm. Might make sense to have a second body to be convertible and at a later date just get a neck and tuners to have yet another guitar.

Another daydream. Know that mounting a Bigsby makes new screw holes in the top, so it is best to just have a dedicated guitar that keeps the Bigsby. Also I like the look of a Bigsby on a Tele.

Seems like one of the battery cables is faulty. I think this is why it seemed that the battery I was trying to charge didn’t take additional charge.

I discovered that I had another charger and the second battery when I plugged it in a light on the battery pack indicated charging. I then tried the second cable that came with the battery to troubleshoot whether the cable was at fault or the power supply (rapidcharger).

It ended up being the cable, so now I have two fully working power supplies luckily.

So now I will fully charge the batteries after they were fully discharged at least once.

I’ll do further testing tomorrow. Seems like the batteries took about a half hour to gain a quarter charge.

It kinda makes sense to move forward with my last “hurrah” and take advantage of current prices.

There is a cool follow through. I have three 12 amp hour Milwaukee batteries: two are to power my electric self propelled lawn mower; and the third is for a 7 inch table saw. I also have an adapter that makes USB power or 120 VAC for up to 175 watts.

Pretty much using a USB cable I could tether the battery for running this vest for pretty much unlimited time. Useful for say someone deer hunting standing in the cold say in a tree stand, or perhaps someone ice fishing.

I also discovered that the charger for my cell phone, a dumb flip-phone, has the same connector as the rapid charger, so now I have three chargers for the two batteries I own.

With the “rapidcharger” it takes about a half hour for each quarter charge, or basically about 2 hours to fully charge the battery pack. Tomorrow I’ll do a full discharge test again to see how much time I have at max heat. I’d like to know how much warmth I can count on.

Pretty cool if I can get 2 hours at max heat, even 1 1/2 hours would be great. The vest weighs almost nothing and aids in mobility.

More testing tomorrow…

I just ordered only one of the vintage style alder Tele bodies. The one I secured features a 1-piece body and is marked down $110.00 because it has a small knot that some would consider a blemish.

The cost actually is mucho low/cheap, and I’m pretty sure I saved a lot on having the 1-piece body, $110.00.

If I were to use this body for a sunburst, the knot would be visible, but I intend on doing an almost see-through white lacquer with some clear coats that over time will yellow.

The other body I was interested in was not 1-piece. Pretty much I’m being picky, and I like the grain disturbance on the top by the bridge on the body I ordered. To me this is “select.”

I sorted through my stock of excess Tele pick ups, and I have 2 Fender Custom Shop 49 No Caster bridge pick ups, and a Fralin Blues Special neck with a hybrid stagger and no chrome cover.

I can make this a Tele (2 pickups) or an Esquire (1 pickup). Either way a mighty evil guitar with a Bigsby. Still can build a second alder guitar.

I have to dig up this hybrid pick guard that I might use if it becomes a Tele. There are other options so I might buy a new pick guard. Hmmm…

I’m following my instinct and speculation. Inflation and tariffs will be the future, meaning higher prices.

So far an hour at full heat and I only used 25% of the battery.

The battery actually is rather warm and also a source of heat.

I can see when working outside you don’t want to be swaddled like a baby and weighed down with layers of clothing.

Also soothing say after a gym workout. Who needs a hut tub?

I examined the photos of the second discounted body. From my zooming in I see that it appears the second $150.00 alder vintage style body is also 1-piece and not advertised as such.

Then I’m drawn to this pine Snakehead body that is only 3 pounds 2 ounces at a different site.

I have a plan “B” if I need different pick ups if the ones I already have don’t work out for a Tele buildout.

The Fender 49 Custom Shop though is a dead ringer for a Snakehead though… Hmmm…

I’m loving the vest. The first real full charge, after a full first deep cycle, reveals a 3 hour run time on full heat.

There are 3 settings and they are color coded to a LED that is also a power selection switch.

The real benefit of this vest is it’s light weight and lack of bulk that makes it practical for when working or being active. When you need warmth, or say when the wind picks up, pretty much you can boost your core temperature easily.

Today I will do round 2 of my annual leaf gathering. It is 9:30 and 52 degrees out with an expected 65 degree high. Say if I was hiking, I’d use two layers of Patagonia R4, but this is kinda bulky and has some mass. Later in the day around 12-2:00 PM I’d be overdressed, and would be burdened with carrying at least one R4.

Know that one R4 would be a vest, and the other a full jacket of sorts.

If I want to go UBER light, I could use this heated vest and my wind proof and water proof shell.

I’ll be using the second battery today in my leaf gathering with nothing else except a long sleeve-shirt. No extra weight or bulk to slow me down or burden me, and pretty much I can adapt with a touch of a button.

The battery pack of course could be utilized as a backup power for say an IPAD, computer or cell phone.

The sale persists. The vest is only $49.99. I bought 2: one for me; and one for “Maggie;” plus two batteries and the “rapid-charger” for about $157.00.

This makes for a good Christmas present, and I’m thinking of buying another for the son-in-law because he is a hunter.

Other than the cable failure/problem, I would agree with the 5-Star ratings.

BTW there is some AI involved in that after the initial high heat the vest resets to eventuall the low heat setting on its own to conserve power.

Rounded up a good amount of leaves, but a lot remains to be harvested. If I round up the rest a 3 foot high chain link fence I moved down to the “ledge” will be hidden and buried untill the leaves desolve into top soil. The ledge is a slightly raised area that is raised/terraced off the marsh bed about 7-8 feet wide.

The marsh grass has made the jump in some places and is expanding onto the ledge. Right now a lot of brush fills the ledge making it almost impassable.

I think next year I will have one big rampant patch of feral tomatoes. The tomatoes already this year roamed with vines that created a patch, and now seeds are everywhere.

Roses are blooming, a lilac bush displays flower, and so does the butterfly bush. It is mid November and the afternoons are spring like.

I dug in and now think that the second Alder body marked down to $150.00 is in fact a two-piece center matched body. The mirror imaging and center seam is evident if you concentrate on looking at the centerline of the body. Oh-well.

Still a cheap price and the grain is kinda mucho straight. Hmmm…

The vest I can see being great for NYC. Pretty much from freezing cold into a heated building or subway. Just dial in the heat setting required and not be burdened with weight and bulk of layers of clothing.

Not a bad thing either when leaving the comfort of a heated car, to just the exposure of a parking lot.

Tomorrow will be a “telling” day for me. I kinda expect surgery, radiation, or both; and at this point I will definately need some form of treatment. Oh-well…

Not good news about your recent health issue. But you are having it treated, you keep yourself well informed about it, and you have the right attitude of just getting on with life as you always do. All win-win.

When you reach my age (closer to 80 than 75) and you notice bits are starting to fall off, you will be in a different but same situation. If this last comment makes sense. It does to me, but please don't ask me to explain, okay?? For a rare moment I would be quite lost for words.

It's really all about living life. To the fullest in whatever circumstances or situation or time you find yourself in. As we do.

DU,

Wasting time is just that. Not for me.

I see and am experiencing age advancing. Seems like I never needed a doctor, but now a lot of our time involves medical visits.

The intermittent fasting and caloric restriction is working to lighten me up along with work and exercise. I see visually my torso getting leaner and more defined. Moving forward…

“Maggie” is 71 and “Woman-Factor” seems to have gotten worse, then better after the post-modern talk.

That oldest living woman who recently died said, “Avoiding toxic people is the key to getting old.”

Yesterday involved a lot of yard work and a cleanup.

I have an aggressive Prostate Cancer that will require at least surgery.

I have to have a full body PET scan that will indicate or show if the Cancer metastasized outside the Prostrate “Envelope.” There is some indication that my lymph nodes might be effected, the indications from the biopsy suggest this, but I was told that this is not reliable. The specialized PET scan is basically the tell-all.

The surgery would get performed at Columbia Presbyterian in NYC by a surgeon that performs this surgery robotically. I was told that this surgeon only does Prostrate Cancer surgeries robotically. The side effects might be some mild incontenance, and some weakness in the musculature in my lower torso. Bonus are two small scars.

If it is deemed I need radiation treatment that can be performed at my local hospital. There will be a DNA mapping from the biopsy samples that were collected to study the genetic possibilities and probabilities, so to a certain extent I’m getting a partial free body scan and DNA analysis. I pretty much will learn somewhat my future.

I was told that I will be monitored on a quarterly basis for any PSA level change for the rest of my life. Pretty much I am now high risk, even though Cancer does not really run in my family, except my sister who died recently age 71.

This is kinda when you have a colonoscopy and they find polyps, meaning you need to get a colonoscopy every three years.

Not so sure radiation treatment is required yet, chemo seems to be out of the picture unless the Cancer spread to other organs. Hormone therapy seems to be promoted, where my testosterone levels would be zeroed.

I inquired if I would become more effeminate, and was assured I will not grow breasts. I will suffer a men-O-Pause that would include hot flashes and night sweats along with disturbed sleep. I already experienced this about 15-20 years ago…

I inquired if I will get crazy emotional mood swings and become a crazy bitch. Pretty much I can become a psycho bitch from hell.

There likely will be a weight gain, loss of lean muscle mass, and being vulnerable to loss of bone density.

So it is no joke that I have bitchy part of me.

I made the call for the specialized PET scan, and a scheduling coordinator will call me back. The timeline for surgery is over the next few months. It is a one day procedure that requires an overnight stay.

The genetic testing will take 2-3 weeks to perform and costa about $3.8K-$5K. Bio-marker’s will determine the depth of treatment plan.

Pretty much because I am considered “young” pretty much aggressive treatment is favored.

I feel I’m getting the best of care.

Cal, one thing you may want to pay attention to is actually putting on weight. You may need a reserve of body weight, instead of being very lean. This is often a factor in increasing lifespan in older adults. While it is good to have lean muscle, it is also beneficial to have a bit of fat to draw upon, otherwise crash diets and a ton of ensure come to bare in order to extend life. Consult a nutritionist before and during your recovery, and it can help you to live longer as well as healthier.

Phil,

I’m in agreement with you. The bone density problem generally is a woman problem, so reasonably it could be offset with some weight training.

The loss of lean muscle mass also means the caloric intake to maintain my body will be less. Pretty much it will be easier to gain weight.

I can see me getting the routine of gym and biking to do what I can that is reasonable. Pretty much I adcept life will be different and there will be limitations. Remember I will not have any testosterone if I get hormone treatment.

The lymph node’s are considered within the “Prostrate Envelope.” Pretty much they can be removed/excised. The concern right now is if the Cancer spread and is outside the Prostrate Envelope.

Part of aging is dealing with limits and limitations. This is no different. Pretty much adapt and learn how to cope the best you can.

I am pleased that I’m getting top notch medical care, even though I don’t live in NYC.

I didn’t realize that testosterone prevents “Hysterical Woman Syndrome.” Pretty much if I get hormone therapy It will be a license to be crazy and emotionally unstable.

Changes are going to happen, and I must learn to adapt/cope.
