Gear Whore #1
Went to the Log Cabin Smoked Meat Sandwich shop with Andrew for lunch.
He came to our house, I showed him around, and he met “Maggie.”
In conversation I contrasted my attitude about the gated communities, the art world, and all about the commodification, compromising, and co-opting… My usual rant, but also contrasted it with “Maggie’s” experience being a celeb, Digital Influencer, public figure, and published author.
Basically she never understood or really respected my reasoning, my attitude, and my methods for over 27 years, and now she is drawn into my wisdom and reasoning after her “I told you so,” experience.
Andrew challenged me by suggesting that because I didn’t need an audience, need recognition, public attention, monetary rewards, and Al-Cal-Aids that I pursued a path of having no Ego, but I corrected him and told him that my Ego is so big that I know that I’m kinda better than that nonsense. Why would I want to pursue “nonsense?”
So in a way I guess I’m arrogant and cocky, and not really humble at all. It actually takes a lot of balls, or big balls, to have the Ego and self esteem to say, “Screw all that,” and that “I want to remain authentic.”
I’m digging into this guitar playing prodogy named Julian Lage who started playing guitar at age 4 and started playing out at age 8.
For me the most helpful is the state of mind he promotes that not only is a way to play and improvise on the guitar, but also presents a mindset to live life. Pretty much to play for yourself and not be concerned with the audience, viewers, or the outside world.
There is a lot of epiphany and crossover happening today that is kinda profound, and I have not played the guitar today yet.
Anyways I took a Great Leap Forward and am newly inspired…
Got a full tour and more history about Renold’s Hills. A cottage across from Andrew’s will likely become available because the owner, a woman, died. Set close to and next to other cottages, about 70 in total, this likely is the smallest and it is the size of a one car garage or about 200 square feet. Andrew says that this small cottage is likely the smallest in the community. This also would have the lowest costs.
The rest of the communal property is pretty much secluded forest on top of a hill. This is a private community and even though not with a physical gate, is kinda a gated community.
Legally Andrew and his wife are kinda grandfathered in along with the caretaker’s house as being the only legal full time residents. Andrew reports that when they sell their cottage it will revert to being only 3-season as the rest of the community, unless transferred to a family member.
I had mentioned that if a private camp and more rural surrounds is required that a cottage in Renold’s Hills would foot the bill, and litterally would be an extension of our back yard about a quarter mile walk up a steep hill. There is a good chunk of wilderness that extends about 2-blocks to Washington Street, and of course there also is the public land, Dickey Brook, and the other side of the marsh.
A while back during the summer I mentioned Renold’s Hills as being a means and a ways to have a very practical solution to having a guest house, and studio space that is an away place in a rural setting, but of course it was dismissed.
Kinda funny how this is now an idea she is keen on and looks likely to pursue.
This too happened with the free gym memberships in our MediCare Advantage plans. When it was my suggestion it got discounted, but when it became her idea…
So you can see I deal a lot with “woman-factor.” I repeat, “There is a reason why men have shorter lifespans than women.”
The property cost is kinda low, but include the taxes and maintenance fees, it is not so cheap. Might be cheaper though than building/converting the two-car garage into a carriage house as a studio.
