New York NYC July Meet-Up

Not a Super Angulon, Cal?

Phil Forrest

Phil,

I'm thinking of the Super Augulon's updated replacement: the 21/3.4 Super Elmar.

Three things about a 21mm FOV: I own a Plaubel 69W with a 47/5.6 Super Augulon that's a 21mm FOV equivelent; the frame width of a 21mm FOV shot vertically is the same width as a 28mm FOV (28mm is my most utilized FOV); and shooting mucho verticals allows for cropping for perspective control for 6x7 and 6x6 compositions.

Also know that I think the Super Elmar is better suited for secondary use on my Monochrom.

Everyone have a good Holiday tomorrow, I have to work.

Bob,

Thanks. Had a great 4 days off and somehow survived the heat.

GEAR UPDATE: A surprise event happened last Saturday and the purchase of the Super Elmar may be delayed a month. I have a pending deal that I don't know how it will turn out. Anyways it involves another Leica...

I made arrangements to borrow a 13x19 portfolio from Jon Cone Studios that I will bring to the Meet-Up. Jon Cone is the inventor of Piezography.

I'm going to get a 20x30 inch print made at a later date from a shot from my Monochrom. I'm exploring Piezography, and I'm hoping that eventually seeing a print of my work from a master printer inspires me to get through a log jam of printing that I put off for the past 5 years.

That Sounds good, You can never have enough Leica's, since the last meet and seeing all the Leica's, it got me wishing I had one again. They cut my hours, so I have a three day weekend this week, What to do.

Bob,

A fifth Leica in my case, if it turns out, will be a matter of good fortune and opportunity. It is not a done deal yet. I have to wait a few weeks for the dust to settle.

Yep, You got the Leica Bug!

Bob

Bob,

More like a M3-DS bug. It seems that I will re-own an early (1954???) M3-DS that was factory overhauled by Leica. It features a brand new "L" seal, and it was reported to have had the RF'er prism resilvered at the factory. It comes with a 50 Rigid V.1 that has the distance scale only measured in feet, along with 12585 Hood, Leica hood cap, a Hood Hat (gift from Steve), red soft release (gift from John), Leica strap, and ML-Grip.

Originally I bought the 50 Rigid from B&H for $499.00. It was misgraded and also mispriced, and must of been recently CLA'ed.

The M3-DS a friend at Adorama told me to buy. When I first handled the Dual-Stroke I remarked that it felt both stiff and loud, but my friend told me that it had been just overhauled, then he showed me the new fresh "L" seal. I know from the past when I got cameras overhauled back from Sherry that they are both stiff and loud.

Anyways I swung a trade involving a lot of camera gear for two vintage Bruce Davidson prints, but now I swung another deal where I got this remarkable M3 back. Now I have a M3 with a 50 Rigid and a M4 with a 35/1.8 Nikkor in LTM. I think I'm going to start bulk loading Kodak 5222 movie film to further the retro old school single coated look. This old glass renders especially nice on overcast days and in rainy weather.

Cal,
I wonder why you've ever bought the MM :D.

Klaus,

I bought the Monochrom because its a great camera. LOL.

Anyways now I own 5 Leicas: Ti Wetzlar M6; chrome M4; chrome M3-DS; black MD-2; and the Monochrom.

I only own 12 cameras. LOL.
