New York NYC June Meet-Up

Hey Cal' are we still gonna meet on the 19th? or just skip till June?

I've been cooped up all winter an now is the season to get crazy. Currently we have the first "Death March" on Saturday May 18th (Court Square Dinner 8:00 AM for breakfast). The first Death March will be followed by a May Meet-Up on the 19th at 1:00PM held a Puck Fair.

In June there is a second Death March in LIC on Saturday June 22d followed by the June Meet-Up that is scheduled for June 23rd at Puch Fair.

I purposely grouped each Death March with the Meet-Up because this is what we did in the past, but now we are doing it every month all summer instead of once a year. This group event is in an area that lacks people and is really urban landscape. Know that there is not really any public transportation so at a point it is hike in and hike out so the term Death March has true meaning.

Thanks for reminding me about the Mermaid Parade which is another group event.

POST SCRIPT: I just found out that the 2013 Mermaid Parade is scheduled for June 22d. Looks like the June 22d Death March will be cancelled. Last year it was reported that the Mermaid Parade had 750,000 spectators and kinda hit a limit as well as a record. I tend to go early and leave early because of the crowds/mob.

Sounds like a plan, I'm in too for the first time. I'll just need to figure out which subway to take. But it looks like 7, E or M are all close by. I marked my calendar. Looking forward to it:D. Bushwick was on my shooting agenda for quite a while already.

Klaus,

Be aware that I found that June 22d is the same date for the Mermaid Parade. There will be other opportunities to Shoot LIC.

That's a pitty but the Mermaid Parade is a darn good reason. I will be there again.

We are spoiled here in New York. Too many shooting opportunities. LOL.

Every year the Mermaid Parade is different. On their website they kinda say that with the biggest turnout ever last year that they might have hit their capacity. I hope this does not place any limit on the event like no naked women or pole dancers. LOL.

I'm bumping this thread.

Also know that I'll be off-line, meaning not at work at my boring day job, for the first week in June.

Then I have Jury duty (Madhattan) starting on June 18th.

See everyone either at the Mermaid Parade or at Puck Fair.

Cal: Been busy making up for a late-Spring cashflow crunch that came at an inconvenient time (I know...when is it ever "convenient?"), but, all else being equal, I might join in on this here "Death March" of yours and, should I survive, hang with y'all at Puck the following day.

BTW, how're you doing getting the hang of scanning, PS and printing? I've had something of a scanning/printing marathon for the better part of a week, and have meant to give you a shout.

Now that I have Sundays and Mondays off now, I'm going to try to meet you guys at
Pucks Fair, are the Burgers Good! and I'll bring my Nikon S3.

While waiting in traffic to enter the Holland Tunnel on Sunday, who do I see sauntering down the street wearing a Ti M6? Cal (and Lynn)!

Rob,

Lyn AKA "Maggie." LOL.

Yesterday John beat me up on a bike. We went over the 59th Street Bridge (Queensboro) and made our way through Brooklyn, over the Madhattan Bridge and then did the West Side.

John does this shooting while riding which is pretty crazy. On the downhill of the Madhatten bridge I could see him shifting his camera from band-dole-ear mode to neck strap. At this point we are perhaps doing over 30-35 mph so I slow down knowing that if John crashes that I might have a chance not to run him over, and the John takes this shot of this guy posted out on a railing while traveling at great speed.

After that he got this woman model in a swimsuit when we rode our bikes through a shoot kinda inadvertently, but the best was this truck driver/hill billy type in the back of a trailer.

It was fun just watching John shoot in this manner. LOL.

No way can I be as crazy as John shooting on a bike. Actually he's pretty good at it.

Hi Cal, are folks going to the Mermaid Parade on Saturday?

Jean-Marc,

I'm heading there early. If you want to take the subway with Pro-Mone and me meet me at 59th and Lex at 8:00 AM.

I intend on shooting two film Leicas with a 28 and a 50.

Hope to see you either at 58th and Lex at 8:00 AM or at the Mermaind Parade.

Cal

Cal: Are you doing the Parade in place of the Death March? Will likely skip the parade this time 'round (though I am happy it's happening), but I'm up for the March if it's still on.
