John, what exactly do you mean when you say "do a Leica"?
I'm steering clear of that.

Christian, stop fronting... you've done plenty of Leicas.

Ok, I did just the one... with the grey non-slip pvc. It also comes in white, black and transparent.

Christian,
With the M4 that is now Andre's I went naked, and with a F3HP I got into leather. Hmmm. How is this related to sex? Perhaps Griptac is a lot like latex.
I'm not a dirty old man, I say "I'm a toothless tiger."

If I had a camera that needed recovering, I'd use handlebar wrap. Textured cork would be wonderful!

Phil,
An interesting idea. On my road bike cork tape dampens vibration and offers grip even when wet, but I found it not to be that durable, although today as part of the green movement they are using cork for flooring.
I can smell the vulcanite on the 1980 MD-2 at times, and this generally is a sign of deteriorating Vulcanite. I took notice of a tiny chip, and once this begins it generally cascades. For me I'm thinking black Griptac and I'll likely remove the plastic dial on the rear door because it serves no use. Camera Leather offers this as an option. My research indicates that the dial on the rear door is simply glued on.

Fidel,
This camera just missed the February Camera Parade. Now I'm beginning to wonder if Leica is monitoring this forum and specifically using our annual event to do their market research. LOL.

John,
Sometimes bubbles pop, but I know this one was rude. LOL.
Leica kinda surprised me when it seems they built the perfect digital camera for me: the Monochrom.
Perhaps Leica one day will also build your dream camera.
Anyways if I wanted a real loud camera I would want a painted Paul Smith version of a MP with that multicolored rainbow print of thin stripes. This would look really great with some of my Paul Smith suits and clothes.
Hmmm... I have a Paul Smith bag that has that print. Christian is the clear Griptac translucent?

Cal,
This is the stuff I used, from this seller. They had the same texture in white, black, grey, and clear, but I now only see a courser texture in clear.
BATH-SHOWER-BOAT-ANTI-SLIP-TAPE-AQUA-SAFE-100MM-WHITE-
Yes, it is translucent, or more like diffused clear, not milky. So you would see the metal underneath.
ANTI-SLIP-TAPE-ADHESIVE-NON-SLIP-100MM-HIGH-GRIP-CLEAR-
The stuff is really easy to cut with an X-acto, and is 'sticky backed', which is holding up well, and also easy to peel off clean. The texture that I used, is courser than vulcanite, not rubbery like griptac, nor as ugly... (in my opinion of course)

Christian,
Thanks for the response.
I happen to like the ugliness of Griptac you mention. I kinda agree that it is kinda ugly, but for some reason I still like it. In a way it is garish and the description "Vulcanite on steroids" fits.
Now I wish I still had that nickel black paint LTM Leica II. The covering was somewhat intact and was removable in one piece, so this camera would make a great candidate for a "Paul Smith treatment." I have an idea of doing that hard edge painting of the seventies to recreate this trademark Paul Smith rainbow skinny stripe print using acrylic paint. I have a wedding to attend in San D-A-Go in August and it would be mighty cool to have a camera that goes with my Paul Smith suit.
An interesting back story to Paul Smith is that he was a bicycle racer who got pancaked by a car. It was only during his recovery that he became a fashion designer. Out of all the designers only Prada and Paul Smith make proper fitting clothes for skinny bitches like me with "biker builds."

EDIT: Next February we should make our annual event "The Ugly Camera Contest."

I much prefer you in your 70s beater/half shirt and shorts combo than those high faluting threads!

It suppose you could paint the body, and then cover that with the clear stuff. If it is for a one time event, you can just cover it up again with plain-jane black afterwards. If you sell the camera, the next owner may never know.
I saw a lecture by Paul Smith in the 90's. It was quite entertaining. He doesn't have a design background, so he doesn't know how to draw. He started designing by taking standard garments and working with them on a mannequin, playing with different materials, and re-tailoring them. He is very hands on. It just started with one shop, and took off from there.

John,
When I get dressed up I don't recognize myself. LOL.
When I took a course at FIT on the last day of class my professor asked me to wear my new Paul Smith suit to class. Some girl who was smokin hot says to me, "You look like an Asian version of James Bond." LOL.
I have these grey trousers I call my "Runway Pants" LOL. Although they are made of light weight wool for summer use they are kinda shinny and look like leather. The tailoring is made to flatter someone who has a skinny hipster body, and then there are these laser cut Paul Smith shoes that go with the pants. You gotta be mighty cool at 56 and have the attitude to go with the clothing to pull off wearing such youthful clothing.

Christian,
I bought some real nice Italian wool trousers that have a 32 inch waist which are kinda big and baggy on me. I intend on tailoring these into a pair of knickers to wear around this summer with my combat boots.
In my past I kinda dressed frumpy because no one ever made clothes for me. Don't tell anyone but some of my shirts are actually a woman's size large. It seems that clothes made for average Americans are all supersized and many designers start their sizes at size 40 while I', a size 38. Most men do not have a nine inch drop or a 29 inch waist.

No Leica's for a Duck tape design all well then.
