New York NYC November Meet-Up

The PhotoPlusExpo was kinda surreal for me. I brought a 13x19 print to give to my friend Robert Rodriguez, the Artist-In-Residence at the Canson Booth, but later I borrowed my print back (Domino Sugar Refinery shot with a cloudy sky from the Williamsburg Bridge) to show Richard Herzog (from Phase One) who was one of the Leica nerds manning the SL counter.

Because I'm a jerk it is my tradition to tell Leica how they can make me a better camera so I kinda whip out my 1975 black SL2-MOT that Sherry built for me from two donor cameras that now resembles a camera that I stole from a museum. "Couldn't your marketing department come up with a new name?" I asked Richard, "And why buy a new SL when I already own an old one."

After I broke the ice Richard was deeply interested in how I shoot my Monochrom and how I print with seven shades of black using Piezography, and somehow rather smoothly I had the opportunity to show my work to people that matter. I borrowed back my print from Robert to show Richard and kinda became a sensation.

A picture is worth more than a thousand words, the IQ and tonality blew them away, and then I was directed to show both the SL2-MOT and my print to this older Leica rep who evidently is the big cheese with a German accent.

Anyways it was really great getting my talent and skill recognized at such a high level. I created quite a stir.

Bob,

Wishing you all the best.

Also remember to take measurements of the goat leather you require to recover that other Contax. I'll be dividing it up in January, and as a limited resource I don't want to waste any. Sam has a project as well, and I want to keep a swatch around just in case I want to recover my IIIG.

For some reason I thought this thread got deleted (or I was banned from it because I'm not a usual poster to these things) and couldn't see if anyone updated it until now. I can't make it to the meet up this Sunday the 15th. I'm currently in the university and have two exams the following day. I suppose I will meet with you guys the following date!

And finguanzo we live closer to each other than you think! I live in Elizabeth, and work in Jersey City.

I hope to meet you all eventually.

Best Jean Claude,

J-C,

Good Luck with your exams.

Understand that if you don't sign in that this subforum does not appear.

Interesting developments is that I'm really glad I'm still shooting film. Seems like my plan to escape NYC will mean I will eventually have a darkroom and studio space in a smaller city, but meanwhile I'm spending as much of my resources to capture images for later printing. Anyways things are becoming more real, and I'm not wasting time while I'm here. Exploring new developers like Rodinal, Microphen in a new way, and new films like Delta 100, 400 and 3200.

I think I'll be bringing my Nikon F3 DF to the Meet-Up.

I have only about 75 more prints to make and then I will be taking my Epson 3880 offline, and a I'll be loading it with Piezoflush to place it in storage mode. Basically I've been printing at an unsustainable pace, and now I need to rob some 7-11's to buy more supplies. When I refill ink carts it will be to print with my new Epson 7800 that I call the "Jersey Barrier" because it closes down what use to be an aisle in our bedroom that really is nothing more than a hopeless big closet filled with cameras, prints, printers and racks of clothes.

As far as GAS goes check out some of the video of the new 526 HP Ford GT350 with that loud "flat plane crank" that sounds like a Far-R-EE. This car is totally trick and for around $60K to basically get a car that is equivelent to a a 6-figure Porshe that is designed for the race track. The red line on this 5.2 liter V-8 is 8200 RPM (very high rpm for a V-8) and it pulls strong starting at 3000 RPM. The sound from this motor is just so musical. To me this is a real serious car. A lot of crazy engineering went into this car. Warning: this car might make you consider selling all your gear so you can buy this car. Magnetically dampened suspension; carbon fiber brake rotors; only available with a manual 6-speed transmission. Pretty much a race car set up for the track turnkey if you buy the "R" version.

For racing next year I intend on doing the NYC Century (100 mile ride) in September on a single speed bike. My friend Eric once said, "Pain is like pleasure: its just a feeling." My IBIS weighs only 17 pounds now, about as light as a road bike, but its a mountain bike. If I can't afford the GT350, I have the next best thing.

Cameras and beer. Sounds like fun. Will try to make it. Need to decide what to bring -- Nikon F6, Mamiya 6 or Olympus OM-4T.

I'll have my AF-D 28/1.4 with me if you want to try it on the F6.

Christian might be interested in your Olympus. Bob is another, but he will not be attending.

Hey guys, when is the next meeting date?

Kevin

Kevin,

We have not set up a December date yet, but know that we often schedule Meet-Ups to accommodate guests from all over the world.

When in December might you be in town? Also know that generally our Meet-Ups are held on a Sunday.

If you have an itinerary we can schedule the December Meet-Up so it can be easy for you to attend.

In January we booked the date so Pete can attend from Austrailia.
