Yes, it appears Phil would like a D2hs and a 14-15mm lens. If he's cool with this, we will proceed. I'd like him to be involved.
Yesterday I did some searching. Adorama had a few. The prices at B&H were kinda high. Also still no response from Helen, and then there's the Passover Holiday.

Great...things are moving. Just let me know before the end of the day which camera that we will be getting Phil. The seller of the D2X (a busy doctor) would like, I am sure, a bit of notice if I need to cancel the appointment tomorrow morning.
Dave, it is looking like Phil is going towards the D2hs. Thanks for your help, and I do appreciate it, but ultimately it comes down to what works for him.

Cool...that is what I wrote in an earlier post, thinking that would be his choice. I will cancel the meeting with the seller.

You guys are too much!
There aren't really any superlatives to describe this whole thing. I could come up with a few that I've used in the military but they would all involve profanity to bump up the superlative level past something like "outstanding" or "amazing" but I really can't describe how you all have affected me as RFF family.
Please don't ship anything to me! I'll pick up anything that is shipped from John, Cal, Pramodh or whoever else in the NYC area accepts things on my behalf (if anything is, in fact, shipped.) I just don't want anything left out here at the apartment where it's apparently in vogue to walk off with other's belongings.
Again, so many thanks.

Phil,
What was that wide angle zoom you were interested in. Was it the 12-24?

Cal,
I lost a Sigma 14mm f/3.5 which used to be an expensive optic but the felt on the cap was coming loose so I got it for a song last year. After hiking in slot canyons in New Mexico, i slipped and bashed the front element against a rock and put a few small chips into the front element so my thieves will have a hard time fencing that for more than $75 if anyone takes a look at the huge hemisphere of glass with the chips in it. That lens may end up in the trash but I "fixed" the chips with some optical nose grease which actually helped remove quite a bit of flare.
The 12-24 zooms are just too much. I like sticking to a single focal length and zooming with my feet. I was just telling John that I've been drooling over a 24mm f/2 AI as it's got a great field of view and fast aperture. Perhaps a 20mm is in order for the wide?
Regarding SeAL training; I know I could pass BUDs excepting ONE very important part: my ears don't equalize well and diving is almost certainly out of the question for me. Back in about 1999 when I started thinking of becoming a COMCAM member, I almost requested to be tested to join SWCC (Special Warfare Combatant Craft) and a photog and had I stayed in the Navy, I think that is the path I would have wound up on with my somewhat unique experience (then) of shooting in Fallujah.
Yes, it's almost all a mental game and our minds can push our bodies to do things that we never thought were possible.
Endless thanks.

Phil,
I shot a 24/2.0 AIS for a long time. Although not a surprise anymore we have to do some shopping, but both Adorama and B&H are closed until Wednesday April 3rd.
You already have a 28/2.8 AIS, Nikon's most corrected wide angle. I'm thinking 24/2.0 AIS and 28/2.8 AIS might be a good start. Is this agreeable?

Absolutely! That's incredible as it is!
As there are a few days until Adorama opens back up, that will give a few folks to get back to me about lenses they have on craigslist.
I'll be away from the computer for a few hours. Going out to adjust the valves on my car and hopefully change my oil before dark.
Phil Forrest
It might be easiest to go to Adorama and B&H next week if Phil is ok with that. That way I can request the cash be sent to me and have it ready for Phil's shopping spree. Craigslist stuff could work too. I don't see any reason to baby sit Phil through his purchases. However, if you do go to B&H or Adorama, it would be fun to be there.

Update
Update
First off, thank you all, again and again.
John just transferred the funds to me after I found a camera and lens combo up in Maine. I'm replacing the D2Hs with a similar body and getting a drool-worthy 85mm f/1.4 AIS. A lens that I have dreamed of owning for perhaps two decades.
Locally, there are a few Craigslist deals that I'm looking at as well for a 20mm or 24mm. This is going to work out amazingly well and I'm going to make sure to insure the gear this time!
With any luck, I may be shooting paid gigs again in just a couple weeks, we'll see.
So, does anyone out there have an inexpensive Barnack I could surprise my roommate with? I'll ask Youxin also in case he has something.
Thank you.

Phil,
I once owned a 85/1.4 AIS. It is a very nice piece of glass.
As far as barnacks go I actually have found quite a few at Adorama. The 1938 black paint Leica II that you know from the recent Beauty contest I bought at Adorama for $299.00 ($326.00 with tax). Had a really nice IIIF that was a later version with a top shutter speed of 1/1000. Also found a 1935 black paint Leica III that had nickel knobs. The black paint III had some serious brassing and even the nickel knobs were brassy.
I had a period where I was day trading LTM's, and now I don't have any.
Cal

Not quite full GAS mode but definitely all-ahead-flank replacement GAS mode. Now that I'm putting money into all these AIS Nikkors, you know it's only a matter of time before I wind up with an F2AS. That was inevitable a decade ago but this may have hastened the purchase to sometime later this year.
