i wish my memory was better...i had either the 85 or the 100 before, when i first had an om outfit. but i cannot remember which.
i do remember really liking it and thinking that it was pretty small.

What is it about the silvernose lenses that you like better for black and white?

That's a good question, and it's a bit tricky to answer. I don't think there's any great difference in sharpness (not that I can see anyway), but I think there's more of a "glow" - a kind of softer tonality, if that makes any sense. I'll try and dig out a couple of examples and scan them to try to show you what I mean.

I think I'm going to be a big fan of the 28-48 too, mainly because I like its focal length range and it is really quite compact. I haven't had it long enough to have much in the way of results yet (recent GAS attacks have left me with a backlog of gear to test), but I could easily see it becoming my standard general-purpose OM lens (I've previously mostly used a 35-105, but it's a bit big - and I really like having the extra at the 28 end).

what makes it your favourite lens?
the zoom range?

I use it at 35mm-ish most of the time, open up to 28mm or so in narrow streets, and go to 48mm or so as a sort of short telephoto/'normal' when needed.

With good light you don't need fast. And for street, urban landscape and the like you don't need another lens or a bag.

You will need the lens hood since the front element is pretty much flush with the front of the lens barrel.

i'm thinking of finding some generic collapsible rubber ones locally.

Yes, indeed - for mine I got a metal hood marked for the 28/3.5 for just a couple of pounds from the well known auction site.

joe: set up a search for the 28 hood. The metal ones come up fairly often, sometimes in waves or bunches. I have two, since I have two 28s. They are screw-in types and look quite nice. If you get a rubber one locally for now, it can always be a spare/rough use hood.

Let me join this club.

I am also a zuikoholic, but since I found the world of rangefinders, the OM G and OM 2000 sits mostly in the cupboard. I usually take the OMs out only when I go hiking to mountains. For street work I love RFs.

The wonderful thing about OMs is that, even thought it's a dead system - it's not completely dead. Many people still use it and enjoy the great design of Mr. Maitani.

I am kind of lucky person, because people here in Slovakia don't feel so passionate about their OMs and so I got some real Fangs in local second-hand shops 🙂 35/2 ~ $80, 85/2 ~ $120, 200/4 ~ $80, 28/3.5 ~ $60, Not as cheap as evilbay, but still pretty cheap.

Now I'm looking to replace my 135/3.5 for maybe a 75-150 or another 135 but this time multi coated. I shoot mostly slides, and this 135/3.5 is soo low contrasty that it can be easily distinguished among the slideshow...

The OM-1s can take 14 different screens (all the 1-x series, except the 1-4n)!

Agree. I got my 28/2,8 with metal hood and the hood is very nice, it has my recomendation.

locally bought today...a couple of generic collapsible 49mm lens hoods, one wide and one normal, for the 35 and 50 lenses and a 55 wide for the 35-70 zoom.

just waiting on the om2n, the 28-48 zoom, the 135/3.5 and the winder.

news flash...the seller of the 135 that i had complained to about the shipping cost has refunded me 10 bucks towards the shipping. (run on sentence?)
i'm waiting on a reply to my email inquiry as to why.

another update...the seller is a nice guy!
we have been emailing and it turns out he has more oly gear to sell. i encouraged him to let us know about it too. he joined last night.
i'm glad i wasn't a complete a** about the shipping as i never would have made this connection with another oly guy.
the only down side is he has gone over to the (digital) dark side 😉
