Obama's People

It's impressive how he made nearly ever subject look uncomfortable -- it's as if he had someone just off set rake their fingers down a blackboard just before he pressed the shutter.

And a new tailor is indeed a good suggestion. If Obama's slogan in 2008 was "Change You Can Believe In", I would like to suggest that 2009's slogan be "Pants that Fit".

"old"??? A bunch of them are younger than me. Oh, wait a minute. 😛

Makes me think of Vonnegut's quote: "True terror is to wake up one morning and discover that your high school class is running the country."

Very well done. More interesting then another run of the mill important old people photoshoot.

Well... I liked the entire thing. It's interesting to listen to the comment about how some people were used to being photographed and, as the NYT photo editor said, could look more spontaneous than some who weren't photographed often.

The camera seems to be a nice digital MF Hassy.

Granted, some people look terribly stiff... but I think it also shows their personality. Apparently, they were asked to stand and "look natural", so they are there, looking "natural" (according to themselves).

Some of Souza's photographs can be seen in the Chicago Trib newspapers. They also ran the story of his becoming the official WH photographer a few days ago. He clearly knows his métier...

I've rarely seen such bad photographs of such important people. I would personally be ashamed of showing such work of such people. Am I alone in thinking this?

If this kind of work is acceptable, then I think I finally know why photo newbies shoot weddings, ruin them, and are still in business.

I can appreciate the artistic license and that it certainly created a mood ( a bit creepy in some of them), but these are the folks that will be plotting our national destiny for at least the next four years........and all I'm sayin is .....would it be too much to ask that you buy clothes that fit, and hey maybe tuck your shirt in? Jeez.....dress the part. BTW did you guys notice how many of them were clutching their Blackberry's in a death grip?

I'm with Goldorak, horribly inconsistent and unflattering, with awful amateurish photoshoping.... and that soft shadow.... horrible!

I agree.

If he aimed to show some personality, I think he failed. Most of the subjects seemed ruffled and uncomfortable - with some exceptions. He didn't seem to be brave enough to show awkward portraits of Emmanuel or Clinton. Smart man.
