September's meet-up was great. We met Jay, Klaus, and Chris from L.A.

Already October is getting booked: this Thursday there will be an opening at The Leica Gallery featuring the work of Pete Souza (Chief Official White House Photographer). From what I see on the invite I received he really understands light. Anyways the opening is between 6-8PM.

EDIT: I forgot that this month is also the Photo Plus Expo at the Javits Center on the 27th. Don't forget to register for free. There's a link on the Expo thread, but you have to register early to get in free. Not sure if we want to make the Meet-Up later that Saturday on the 27th. IMHO its always better to go early and leave around lunchtime because the place gets mobbed.

Keep in mind that Halloween is in the middle of the week this year on Wednesday the 31st of October. I will be taking some time off. I think I might load up on slow color slide film for shooting at night, but shoot B&W during the day. Know that the best time to shoot is early when people are setting up, even though the parade starts at 7:00. Jeff suggests getting there before 4:00 PM, but I like comming even earlier.

So when do you guys want to get together?

EARLY GEAR ALERT: Steve remind me to bring my 50 Lux for you, and Jay definately remind me to bring my Fleenored Rollei with Maxwell Screen and the Plaubel 69W Pro-Shift.

I wont be around for the Halloween Parade.
I havent been able to make the last few meetups, hopefully I can make it to the expo.
The Leica opening, is that open to the public? I never received an invite for that one, usually do... I might swing by to that after work on Thursday..

Fidel,

The opening is open to the general public. Leica Gallery 6-8 PM.

At the last meet-up it is always cool meeting new people, then there are the regulars... to beat on and who make fun of me.

I brought the slides from Fashion Night Out.

A couple of us are interested in books, and Cristian and I were inspired by the Book Fair at PS1 and this Pop-Up 10x10 event nearby. I brought some small art books that were rather sculptural as objects that I made nearly two decades ago.

Also Dunstan, who did not attend the Meet-Up, grouped up with Cristian to go shooting on Saturday in LIC. The light wasn't the best, but the clouds were dramatic, especially with an orange filter.

We didn't have to cover a lot of ground to find shots. This cement conveyor yard was major busy with trucks getting loaded. We blasted away in that spot for a while. Then there is this construction site near the LIE where they are erecting a Fed Ex Depot. Currently the steel infrastructure is up. We shot from around 9:00 AM till 3:00 PM and then went to the book events.

Overall that industrial urban decay is still all around, but the emptiness I once recorded there when the recession and credit crisis was upon us is gone.

Jeff,

I'll be there.

Also know that I want to see a Monochrome. The waiting is not too bad yet.

Recently I upgraded my black 50 Lux ASPH to the mucho heavy chromed brass version. Now my pimped out Wetzlar M6 with TA Rapidwinder and TA Rapidgrip has "bowling ball factor" because of the solid feel and the mass. The chrome lens adds a very retro vibe and feels totally different than the lightweight black version.

The chrome 50 Lux is not that much lighter than my 75 Lux which is a porker. Always liked the feel of the digital M's with the thicker body.

Cal,

Congrats on the chromed brass 50mm lux! :)

I do like your Wetzlar M6 and TA winder/grip.
Any idea where I might be able to see and/or pick up the TA Winder in black for my M6?
You like it anymore than the Leicavit-M? I'd like to see them side by side.

Ivan,

I'm a big fan of the TA Rapidgrip and Rapidwinder. While not for everyone the added ballast definitely helps steady the camera. I love the feel of my Wetzlar M6 rig with my new chrome 50 Lux ASPH, but for some the "bowling ball" feeling of weight comes with the solid feeling.

TA Rapidgrips are somewhat difficult to find, but ocassionally they come up on EBAY. The same for TA Rapidgrips, but as of late they have become more costly and expensive.

In use the ice pick section of the Rapidwinder serves as a grip for my left fingers, and also speads my hands further apart for a broader foundation. Also kinda makes my Leica more like a Nikon F3 with motordrive.

Overall the TA Rapidwinder is a more simple design and it seems has proven more durable.

BTW congrates on your fresh M6HM with MP finder upgrade. It's a killer rig, especially for someone who does not wear glasses. That extra magnification adds focus accuracy and makes for a faster focus.

I happen to have a black TA Rapidwinder and mat black Rapidgrip. Not sure if I want to part with, but I will think about it.

Cal

I see a Rapidgrip on the classified section right now

Ivan,

The one in the classified is in New York. Its one of the early retro versions with only one finger grip. Mine has 3.

Also know that some early Rapidwinders do not have the tripod sockets in the right location to utilize a Rapidgrip.

This is a bump.

The October Meet-Up will be at Puck Fair this Saturday the 27th of October.

A group of us will be grouping up at the Javits Center at 9:45 AM for Photo Plus Expo and will break off around noon to migrate to Puck Fair.

Cal

I'll be there at puck fair. There is not much chance of me being anywhere at 9:45 on a Saturday morning. I'll have been to the expo already.
Cal, you may want to wipe down the monochrome before you pick it up, because my grubby hands will have been all over it.

Cristian,

I'll be sure to sanitize the MM before I handle it, already have the alcohol preps. I'll be sure to add some of my DNA to the mix due to my drooling.

Earlier this week I was informed by my dealer that I advanced from number 15 to number 13 on the list. I'll be sure to yell at the Leica reps in the booth to hurry up. LOL. Perhaps whining is an alternative approach.

I'll give them a heads up that you are coming, and that they should be prepared!

Although I now live in Madhattan, I grew up out on Lawn Guy-Land. What a bunch of whiners, I had to escape. Research studies noted that Long Islanders whine 5 times above the national average. Seriously, I'm not making this stuff up.
