Other/Uncategorized of Leica & FSU "standard"

Other Screw mount bodies/lenses
Do you know if any of the wide range of FSU cameras (I'm thinking of the early FEDS, nkvd....and first zorkis), are true Leica standard collimation? Is it possible that the first batches of cameras were much Leicas than later? Or every FSU is off?
Thank you,
ciao

This question pops up frequlently,I think the problem dates back to 1934 and the Fed 1,which was a remake of a 111B. I have three J lenses none of them will focus correctly on my III G, however on my III C , everything works just fine. The reason for this is that the III C has thicker wheel on the rangefinder arm. I recomend two simple tests: First, scale focus at at a test target from wide open and down, and then rangefinder focus at then rangefinder focus at the same target. If scale focus is sharp, your back focus and lens elements are placed correctly in the barrel. To check if the focusing ring or peg mates with the wheel on the focusing arm,use an old mechanics trick. Put a thin layer of Prussian blue ( or even lipstick) on the wheel and mount the lens. The peg should leave a marking on the wheels OD.

Best regards, and wish you luck. Henry.

Well...I really have to thank you for your wishes of good luck..:D
I was the only bidder:

I sold my Zorki 1 for 85 euros and bought a Leica for less....Ok, I will pay high custom fees, but I feel optimistic...

About the IIIc: I remember that on the Gordon Coale blog he was a happy user of Jupiter lenses on a IIIc actually, so maybe for strange reasons this could be a viable combo. I will let you know if my Industar 61 will focus correctly. By the way... a lovely lens, my best lens for colors...throughout ALL my lenses, nothing beats my Industar 61 for crispness, saturation and fidelity. I owned two and I can tell, looking at print from the usual 1 hour lab, my rolls shot with that lens. So I will be happy to continue to use it on a classic Leica.
