I had my M7 in my standard camera bag today.. my F-803.. but I didn't have the top done up on the bag. Well.. the M7 was sitting on top of some other stuff in the bag so it would be within easy/quick reach when it was on my shoulder; don't I put the bag down, it tips over on the table and the M7 goes tumbling out onto the table.

It landed hard enough to knock the RF patch out of alignment a weeeeeee bit. Not much but I believe it's noticeable. Either that or I'm getting old and my eyes are going.

So I have put in an email to Mr Yau to see if he can do the adjustment on the patch - I don't need him to do anything else .. so I'm hoping it'll be "ok" by him. If this was my M2, I'd try the adjustment myself according to the Leica FAQ online but this is the M7 and everything after the M4 (i.e. M6 and onward) requires that "special" tool.. it's special because it's small but costs upwards of $250 USD 😀

Cheers
Dave

Did you buy your M7 new or used? If it is new, I thought the Leica Passport warranty is pretty extensive. Does it not cover this sort of thing?

Anyways, sorry to hear about the misfortune, but at least you have those other wonderful cameras to shoot with!

Bought it used Kyle. I'm not too worried about it as I believe that RF patch adjustment usually is pretty "easy" wrt the M's - probably easier than it is on the Voigtlanders (and I've done those myself 😀 ).

I just want someone "professional" to do it - plus I don't want to muck up the "red dot" when removing it to adjust the vertical alignment and then having to order a $250 tool.. ya know? 🙂

I'd just like to say, F****************K!!!!!!

*sigh* Silly rangefinders are too fragile 🙁

back alley: sorry kev, had to edit that nasty word...j

Edit: Hah, yeah. I didn't think it would make it past the filter but surprisingly it did. Thanks 🙂

You could try the "back alley adjustment" technique. 🙂

Nevermind... the guy who has the info on the Leica FAQ says that sometimes he bangs it against his palm to get it to go "back" into alignment... that's alright for the mechanical Leicas but not with this thing.. the price I pay for AutoExposure 😀

that's the closest i've come to being right in a long time...

Ouch!! Dave I do feel for you. I had an accident with my then "new" M7 in an F-803 type bag last winter and it survived.

Hope everything turns out OK and not too expensive!

I have an appointment to drop off my baby on Wednesday - he'll keep it overnight and test it on Thursday - I should have it back (hopefully) by Friday at the latest 🙂

I'm lucky he's right up the road from me so getting to him is not a big pain in the butt 😀

UPDATE:

I dropped the M7 (not literally 😀) off to Mr Yau yesterday (Wednesday) evening and he took a quick look at it and noted that it was, in fact, out of alignment. He said it would not be a problem to fix and leave it with him overnight.

I just got a call from him today; he said he re-aligned it and did a bit of a cleaning exteriorly. It's all ready for pick up 🙂

I have to admit, if my baby's fixed up nice it will be worth the "what I consider cheap" price for Mr Yau's service!!

Dave 🙂

nice that he is so close...

He's close, he's quick (and I'm not saying that because it's me.. he turned one of Ken Ng's bodies - my ex body - around in 1 day for a full CLA !!!) and he's VERY reasonable.

I think I'm going to drop off my IIIc for a CLA when I pick up my M7
