The recent thread on how much undeveloped film we might have got me thinking about how to solve this issue for myself. I'm in that group to the tune of 27 rolls of 35mm and 13 rolls of 120 --all b+w-- and it's time to get pro-active.

I'm very pleased with the color film results I had processed / scanned by Precision but I haven't tested their b+w processing because for years I've been committed (or thought I was) to doing it myself using PMK Pyro and I understand they use DDX. I'm reluctant to give up my method and start anew with a different developer but it sure is tempting to just mail the film away and be done with it.

So help me decide whether a) to get off my lazy butt and get busy or b) quite kidding myself about developing my own and bite the bullet and  send the stuff out. Do you think any perceived difference due to different processing would be offset by guilt-free shooting?

Thanks!

I scan my own color but send C-41 and E-6 out. But I find I couldn't get anybody to do my B&W the way I like it. Again, scanning yourself (B&W) is just as important, to me, as developing yourself. So, what I do is send color out for development but scan myself. And develop my B&W and scan myself.

Same. I also print myself on a Canon imagePROGRAF iPF5000.
Most rewarding. I know exactly who to blame for screwups. I get all the credit when things go right.

Send out the C41 and E6. Develop the BW yourself and use pyro because that's what you like and know. Scanning is easy. Just preview and then decide if you want to do a full scan. I do a higher resolution pass for about 25 percent or less of my negs. YMMV. Your image quality will be overall better.

Turn off the computer and get to work. You have 40 rolls of film waiting for you.
