Official prices on Pop Flash

Indeed, boycotts don't work. I've been boycotting Rolls Royce for years and they still haven't brought their prices down...

Some people seem to believe that they have a divine right to buy whatever they want, at whatever price they want. The real world doesn't work like this.

Cheers,

R.

'divine right' , a little bit excessive Roger! Personally I believe in fair pricing. As I've said before, with regard to the M8, I'm not willing to be a Leica beta tester, especially at the prices being spoken of on here. Yes, I will admit, I'd love an M9 and having used my D700 extensively I'm sold on full frame digital. I'm sure it will be a great camera but at this anticipated price point it ought to be and fully sorted too. I won't hold my breath too long waiting for Leica to price their products with photographers rather than the wealthy in mind:)

It is very easy to get U.S. products without sales tax. You purchase by mail from another
state. The U.S. does not have a national sales tax.

Unfortunately, however, movito is in Norway and I'm in Germany.

And the Leica is not an U.S. product (not that that makes a difference sales-tax-wise).

Here we go again, comparing the 'FULL FRAME M9' everyone's been asking for to DSLR's!!!!! This is a 'rangefinder' forum right? I thought we're all RF fans....but obviously the filter on this forum isn't working.

If you're going to compare apples to oranges then the M9 is not for you, obviously. Do you think that comparing and complaining about it's high price is gonna make Leica drop the price, just for you? C'mon guys, just be happy Leica has done it!

What a negetive thread. Do we all want Leica to fail? I think both new bodies are awesome. If you want Leica quality and innovation you have to pay for it. A used M6 from 1986 still goes for $1200. An equivalent used SLR from Nikon would be about $125, Canon? don't even ask. My point is that you can not compare them. Different worlds. Leica prices have always been in another world and that's the way it is.

My wife tells me I'm disgusting - so I'm a third of the way there ;)

"I read that Pamela Anderson considers a man a man if he has sixpack abs, a firm ass, and a pair of jeans. Looking down at myself I see - a pair of jeans. I'm a third of the way there!" ;)

Well now that the FF RF is finally out and they can't complain about the piddly little sensor in the M8, we can finally get back to the same old complaints that the Leica is just too damn expensive. They are just for the stupid, the rich, or the star-struck.

I notice the D3X is $8K at B&H. That Nikon, pricing with no concern for the little guy.

I don't think anyone is directly comparing the M9 to DSLRs but rather hoping the M9 sensor will be at least as good as any FF sensor out there. I agree that it makes no sense to whine about price. It is what it is and for Leica pretty, I had to use the word in connection with Leica, reasonable. A D3x is no cheaper and they are selling.

Release date is September 9th. I don't know if the NDA specified the hour.

Did Tony become an authorized dealer? Last I checked he dealt in grey market imports, not that there's anything wrong with that. Unless he's a contracted dealer the NDA doesn't apply to him.

Certainly! I'm happy that Leica can overcome the technical problem and provide a full-frame sensor camera for only 7k USD.

That is not outrageous at all, especially coming from Leica and think about all those quality lenses that regained their full-strength (focal-length) back.

If I have 8k to spend on a digital camera, I'd be hard-pressed to overlook the M9.

The X1 on the other hand... tsk, tsk, tsk!
I think Leica should just charge 8k for the M9 and throw in the X1 as a bonus.

:D

PS. I still don't think it will come close to a D700 anyway!!!!!

Yeah, I want one, but looking at my D700 and a few primes that cost less than a grand together new, makes me wonder why. I know Leitz lenses are good, but being able to focus a wide angle, less than a foot away, is pretty handy at times, as is a 50 mm at a foot and a half. And even though I don't mind MF, there are times, shooting one handed, that AF comes in handy. I still want a M9 though.

Especially when you compare the results possible between a 50/1.4 AF-D Nikkor and a 50 Summilux Asph!

show me some done with the summilux at 1250 iso up and i'll show you some i've done at hi 2 (25600 iso) with a nikkor 50 AI. This whole Leica thing is b@@@@@@s. I have both systems and unless you actually took the photo and remembered what you used, you'd never know! I do wish people wouldn't look through misty doe eyes just because someone put a Leica label on it.:D
