Oh help me, what to sell/keep - Canon / Nikon?

I have these two kits. I need to fund some GAS. What would you keep; which one is going to cause me deep seller's regret?

Kit #1:
- mint Nikon F2 titanium. Yes, mint.
- 58mm Noct-Nikkor
- 50/2, 50/1.4, 58/1.4, 55/3.5, 85/1.8, 105/2.5, 180/2.8 ED

Kit #2:
- Canon F-1 classic, EX+
- 50/1.4, 55/1.2 ASPH, 85/1.2 ASPH

Some of my own considerations:
- finding any titanium F2 is very hard. Canon F-1's are easy.
- those Canon ASPH lenses are very hard to find, but I'm not sure they are holding their value

....Vick

Can't say much about the Canon kit - FD lens prices are low. You may as well keep them as their benefit/cost ratio is really high. If you sell the entire lot, you may not get much money. Only you will know how much you'll miss them.

As for the Nikon kit - that Ti F2 is already a collectable, as is the Noct! These items plus a few gold bars will serve you well in the coming meltdown of the dollar :)
Keep those two, maybe the 50 f/2 (low resale value, high picture value), maybe the 55 Micro, sell the other 50s. Pick between the 85 and 105 (too close together in focal length).
Do you use the 180? I have the 180 2.8 ED also, but I can't recall ever taking a picture with it. I've even spent the money to have it relubed and serviced by Authorized Photo Service here in the midwest.

In the extreme case, you'll be left with the F2 and Noct-Nikkor alone.

The plain 55mm 1.2 ASPH (not the "AL") are pretty easy to locate lately. You should sell the Canon kit, mostly because the Noct-Nikkor and F2 will cause me a great amount of GAS.

Good advice, almost exactly what I was thinking, except re: the dollah, but that's cool, I'll take the other side of that trade ;). I would keep the F2, the Noct, the 50/2, and the 85, and jeez pick up a 35/2.8 or something!

:)

I'd say keep the Nikon kit :)

The Canon kit is much easier to find and also at a lower price compared to the rare Nikon kit you got...

All I know is that I'd rather have the Canon kit because it, IMO & all that, be a much more fun kit to shoot. If I had any money, I'd make you an offer for it right now. I know that 85/1.2 is one of the most amazing bits of glass out there & I would dearly love to use it on my near-mint FTbN.

Junk the Canon before it becomes worthless. Then again, as the rest have pointed out, you are probably not going to get much back and that's certainly not going to fund much of anything.

Cheers,

Based on realizing the most cash from the sale to fund other purchases, the logical answer is to check KEH, ebay and whatever other auction and sale sites you know and determine which items have the most value to user/collectors, and then sell those particular items.
I'd also suggest that you talk to people like Doug Napier (dugweks) who buy and sell collectibles for a living, for insight as to which are the most desirable items to sell.

Which one takes better photos and/or is more enjoyable to use? That should clearly tell you which way to go. If the Nikon and Canon are a tie in those departments, then I'd go w/ the one that you can get the most for in a sale. Hard to get cameras can usually be found again if seller's remorse pays you a deep-in-the-night visit. I started doing that and it made the decisions very easy. Otherwise I was dithering all over the place. Now I am down to 4 cameras and once I have a little shootout between my 2 TLR's I'll be down to 3. For once I'm going in the right direction.

The Nikon kit is worth much more, will be much easier to sell, and is much harder to find.

The Canon kit is a great picture taking kit but will not get you very much money if you sell it.

It really depends on how much you need the money.

Based on the previous items I've seen you sell, I have an idea of your tastes and desire for rare and mint gear. So, though I would prefer you sell it to me, I would definitely keep and enjoy owning the F2 Titanium and the 58 Noct-Nikkor. Unload all that Canon stuff and all of the other Nikon lenses except the 50/1.4. Take all of those funds and add a simple FM2 for SLR use with the 50/1.4. Then use the $ left over for GAS purchases. But as you know, you'll get the most GAS $ from offing the F2 Titanium...but good luck getting that back (unless you sell/trade it to me where you'll get first right of refusal). :) Good luck Vick!

Keep the stuff you use and sell the equipment you don't.

Indeed. I loved my Contax G2 kit like no other, but got to the point where I was babying it and not shooting it. I sold it and bought a bunch of lenses for my beat-up Mamiya 645 and C220 with tons of cash to spare.

Frankly, for the OP, I'd sell everything you're not using (assuming you're primarily a photographer and not primarily a collector). As nice as it is to keep collectibles around, things do fall out of favor and drop in price, so if you think the market's right to sell I'd take advantage.

Like others have said, keep the one you're most comfortable using and sell the rest value be damned. If you're not using it, or don't have fun when you use it, what's the point.
