last night, just winding on a new roll of film, which i have been doing for 40 years, i closed the back, rewound the slack on the rewind knob and advanced to film to see the rewind knob spin to reassure me the film was locked in (an old habit from my father, he never trusted the sub-miniature cameras, as he called 35s). then i went to change the ISO to 400 (Hp5) and the ring wouldn't turn after lifting it gently, as you do.

hmm, so i tried and tried but figured i could interpret the exposure anyway. then i took a snap of the curtains for no reason and the film wouldn't advance. another try and it did after lagging a second and then it lurched freely without moving the film. no, i didn't force it.

THEN when i went to shoot the curtains again, for no real reason, the shutter release wouldn't depress, which is what i rapidly became. so i put it down, had another sip of red and shot an email off to the proshop i bought it from.

anyone have any of these problems? i love the feel of the camera so i'm not bagging it. just looking for comfort.

cheers,

dj in Oz :bang: i don't usually use these but this is how i felt...

I sometimes have a little trouble when reloading my R3-A, it seems to get out of synch.

Take out the film, and wiggle the sprockets on take-up side, while gently trying the shutter release and the advance lever. My usually responds in a few wiggles.

The problem seems to occur after the last frame on the previous roll results in an incomplete cocking of the shutter (trying to get 37 frames out of a 36 roll). Trying to advance too quickly on a slow shutter speed can also cause it. Good luck.

I agree with Larry. Remove the film and work the sprockets by hand. See if you can free the mechanism or advance it a bit.

It's possible that the thing has simply jammed. Cameras do go wonky once in a while, and if it doesn't work now, you might as well get it repaired or replaced while under warranty. Hope you didn't buy gray market.

thanks, all. i did the sprocket thing, as well but no luck. i'm not one to thump or shake so i rang the shop and they are happy to give it a good look over or replace, whichever is more appropriate. and as it is Winter here (australia) i wanted to take it to the snow in a fortnight so they will get it done pronto. there is another thread active about cold weather operation of the camera. i'll be interested to see how it performs with some new conditions. cheers, dj
