Ok CVers, please provide me with some good recommendations...

I'm looking for a 35mm or 40mm in Leica M or LTM for my R2. It doesn't need
to be super fast, but f2 or 2.5 or 2.8 would be nice. I should also preface that
I'm looking for "used" and quality is more important than cosmetics...

Looking to pay $150-250.

What are my options...fire away.

Thanks,
Alain

I'm really liking the 40mm, f/1.4 Nokton at the moment. It's sharp and opened up the 'bokeh' is different to what I'm used to.

It's also a tiny lens.

The Voigtlander 40/1.4?

What's the price on the Nokton? Something like $380 new?

$380 new, but you specify "used". You should be able to get a mint specimen for your money (I did and that's over here in the UK).

With the R2 you have the framelines for 35. I'd look around for either the CV 1.7 Ultron or the suggested Skopar by ManGo. I don't know which are the closest either the 35 or 50 lines.

The 40 lens from memory brings up the 50 lines on a Leica, this might be a consideration if in the future you get a second body.

At any rate, all the options suggested so far are fine lenses from what I hear. Good luck.

In your price range the Skopar is an excellent choice. Realisticly i don't think you will find an Ultron or Rokkor 40 for $200. You may be able to find a Canon 35/2.8 which is said to offer a classic look with low contrast and good sharpness.

Thanks for the feedback everyone...

Looks like a 35/2.5 LTM is an immediate option for me in terms of price, and the 35/2.5-M,
35/1.7 LTM, and Rokkor 40/2 sre some other options down the road.

I read the lens page on the CQ site and found myself wondering about this lens?

Is there a good place to look online for a M-Rokkor 40/2?

The lens is a rebadged Leica Summicron. The best place to look for one is the classifieds here on RFF or on Photo.net, or on eBay. I paid 250 euro from a private dealer here in Amsterdam. You could find this lens for $250 on eBay; or less if your patient.
